Guitar amp,,,,,,,,is preamp out balanced/unbalanced?

My guitaris uses an old dinosaur 5150. We like to record our free style jams, everyone into seperate channels for future inspection. Unable to mic the amps without everyone else bleeding on the track. I am using DI box for bass and other guitar. The 5150 has a preamp output, Do you think I would get a better signal from a DI box on the 5150, or is the preamp out giving me a good signal. I am being a little lazy here. I know I could just try my DI box on the 5150 and hear for myself, but I have my shit mounted and cables ran where it would be a pain to do and then redo(I hate having cables running on the floor, electric spaghetti) The 5150 guy said he will get his own DI if it is going to help our situation. I looked at the 5150 manual but was unclear on the specs of the preamp out.
Any thoughts?

100 responses will not change the fact that you still have to try it yourself :)
 
If it's part of an effects loop on a guitar amp then iti's most likely unbalanced... but does that have to do with anything?

The cable run will be approx. 30 feet from amp to mixer. It is not 30 feet away, but in order to keep things tidy I run most things up and over to my mixer. I have read that an unbalance cable should be kept as short as possible.
 
Fair enough.

Tell the guitarist to buy a DI anyway... everyone should have one. Then you can try both options.
