My wonderful wife bought me a Tascam 2488. Whoop!

As I have absolutely no experience with analog recording stuff, other than recording direct to stereo cassette decks, I won't need to overcome all that negative training that all you reel-heads keep complaining about. ;)

My wife said, "This is going to be like a cancer, isn't it?" :D

I've been wanting some kind of home mixing and recording capability ever since I can remember. This is sweet.

Please be kind as you tolerate all sorts of stupid questions from me in the future.

Congrats!

And don't apologize to me. I haven't used a Tascam since my Porta One, so your questions will mean nothing to me! :D

Hey, I feel for his wife, she is now a home-recording widow.
Welcome to the dark side you are, Beeblebrox!!

Thanks, guys. I'm looking forward to the lost weekends. ;)

apl, I don't know if this unit can use VST plug-ins. I haven't seen anything in the documentation that directly addresses it.

Edit: My impression is that some of the Tascam products that utilize a PC interface can use VST plug-ins, but since this is a stand-alone unit, I'm not sure.

My bad. I thought the post was in the Analog Forum, and you got a tape deck. I like to tease the neanderthanalogs.

Analog heads don't need VST plugins.

Negative training to overcome? I have no idea what you're talking about.

I think your wife is hiding something, I mean, what did YOU do to deserve that?

She might expect you to write and record a song for her, so make that a top priority, especially if you want more gear from her in the future.

My last birthday I got a pair of socks and a piece of ass and they was both to big......

That subject has already come up! She's a Kindergarten teacher, so I will probably be recording some of my best Raffi and Hap Palmer imitations. ;)
