No. I am notoriously non-selective when it comes to guitar tones :o

I'd've expected the opposite, with it going below zero above 5k.

Maybe that's the way the amp sounds where the mic was positioned, ~4" off the grill and about 2/3 of the way from the center to the edge of the cone.

Not being sarcastic, but yeah, that's it. The mic will pick up the sound where it's positioned. If you want the mic to pick up the sound you hear, you have to put it where your ears are. Conversely, if you want to hear what the mic is hearing, you have to put your ears where the mic is. I have to bite my tongue every time I see a guy stand six feet away from his amp, dial in a tone he likes, and proceed to slap a 57 two inches away from the cone. :p

I find that backing any close mic off a foot or two can really open up the sound a lot, getting much closer to what your ears hear in the room, without having to set up a mic five feet away and six feet up.

The amp is a Line Spider II 112.

Christ. You could just as well play an acoustic through an air duct and mic the other end of it. Sell that thing and get a something that doesn't convert your guitar to 0001 110 1100 1100 0110 0011 0110 :p

I'd have to sell it and buy several.

carvin, squire, epi I think is the order of guitars. Am I right about any of them?

apl, versatile is kind of a funny word. when i hear that word, it makes me think "mediocre results over a broad range of applications". no single amp, no matter what the cost, engineering, or research is going to give you the sound of alot of amps. the podxt is better than 50% there but has a long way to go. also, speakers and cabinet play a huge role in guitar tone. no single speaker/cab is capable of sounding fairly close to a bunch of other speakers/cabs.

the spider models are far from authentic. it's a bunch of marketing hype mostly, although some intentions of authentic modeling are there. if the amp works for you, that's one thing but if you think that you're gettting anything even remotely close to the real amp sounds that are being modeled, go check out the real deal amps and be prepared for some heavy dissapointment.

now i do think that the pod is a respectable box for bedroom recording. i also like the line6 duoverb for it's cleans and plexi models (although they don't sound authentic). neither are very good at getting the characteristics of different guitars across, but they do have some good sounds. i've tried the spiders, flexi's, etc........the whole line pretty much. if you want modeling, the podxt is the best there is.

i hope you see what i mean in this post. i'm not downing the spider amp. if you get sounds out of it that you really like and you enjoy playing thru it, cool. that's all that matters. BUT, if you wanna see what your guitars really sound like, try out some tube amps. i don't know what guitar/amp sounds you really love, so i won't make any recommendations on amps but keep in mind that there are plenty of crappy tube amps out there and a few good sounding solid state and digital amps, depending on the application.

Yep. I'm sure my collection will keep growing.

We have a weiner! All were using the bridge pickup, and going through a Crunch, Blues, and Clean amp model, repectively.

:) I've been doing well in these blind listening quizes. I have the es57 as well and I like it. It's a great deal.
