Grove tubes GT33 - this a nice mic, for acoustic instruments, vox etc?

Anyone have any experience with it?
and is £99 an good price - DV say it was £350? if so that seems a top price

and advice would be fantastic! cheers.

yes!!!

that mic is amazing. I have two and they are involved in almost all of my clients' projects...Great on vox, guitar cabs, hi hat, room mic, acoustic gtr, the list goes on!

I never used a 33, but every other GT mic I've tried has rocked.

i bought the gt 44 - valve version of the 33 - for 220 at dv - another thread seemed to suggest it was worth the extra money - have a search for it if you're interested..but either way i think it's probably one of the best deals for a quality sdc.

They're pretty good. I don't like it as much as the 44, but it's nice to have around.

I'd say it compares well with something like the Oktava MC-012, only it has much better build quality from what I can tell, and most likely has far superior Quality Control and consistancy from one to the next.

I've got a pair. They are worthy instrument condensers for a project studio.

I think they've got a different sound from the MK012. I think they're more meaty. The Oktava can get flabby if you're not careful with your placement. I haven't found this to be an issue with the GT33.

I'd also say on Chessrock's quality control comment that I thought the build quality on the GT33 to be the best of any Chinese mic I've encountered thus far.

monkey speaking to the masses

gotta chime back in...my GT-33s sound nothing like an oktava. Mine have an extremely pleasing and unique midrange which tends to prove crucial on certain percussion elements (huge impacts), vocals (thick and juicy for a MDC, when hyper-compressed), and especially distorted gtr cabinets (which tend to be very picky about midrange response and resonance).

I also noticed that while the sound these give is top-notch, the build-quality and choice of materials only score a C+ in my book.

Maybe if you compare them to a Schoepps or something ... but these are now like $100 Chinese mics. You're being a little picky, there. :D

Yeah i'm definitely being picky considering it's cost of $99/each. "Bang for the buck" = A+
