Mic Pics!!!

OK, now for some mic pics. I didn't get all of the mics, but most of them. I snapped a lot of shots cause I know you guys are probably salivating at the chance to get your hands on them. Hopefully I'll have clips of pre's and mics later this week on drums.

The mics seemed packed well. Here's some 310's and 6802T's:

BTW, the 310, 6802, ACM200, ACM1200 all came with very nice flight type mic cases. The ACM2 & ACM3 came with nice wood (?) boxes.

Here's the 310:

And it's shockmount:

The ACM4 had the typical chinese plastic type case.

Nice looking mic. I actually like the gold on this mic. Usually I don't. The mic is black for anyone that was wondering what color we were getting....

Interesting bottom. I'm not quite sure how to get it apart....

22ACM4Bottom.jpg

Interesting shock mount as well. My son said the mic looks like an old school cell phone.....

ACM200 - phantom ribbon. not too wowed about the build on this one. The head basket is crooked, but I suspect pulling it apart and putting it back together with a little TLC will help out. Chance says him and Terry are loving it on Guitar Cabs....

BTW, EXCELLENT shock mount on this guy....

I think the 6802 is maybe the nicest fit and finish and nicest looking of the bunch. Why did I get only one.......

ACM3's

ACM100 (no box - just zipper bag & nice shockmount)

The 1200's came packed well....

Pretty much what I expected. Build quality is about what I expected as well. Built fairly solid for a chinese mic, but certainly no german build on these guys. I think fit and finish comes in second to the 6802's but I liked them better than the other mics. Quite solid and from what I hear, Chance and Terry have something up their sleeves that gonna make these mic's ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!

Decent shock mount. Typical Chinese style.....

And now for my favorite pics. I'll just post all of them. My new ACM mics:

Holy cow! Who did you rob, Doc? LOL Thanks a lot for posting these! BTW, how many 310's did you get. They didn't make the final pix.

:D

:D

No robbery involved....:D I did sell a bunch of stuff to help fund it though.

Oh, the reason there's no 310's in that group mic pic is because I didn't get any. I've got some km84's that I love and I couldn't see these eclipsing those, so I concentrated on mostly ribbons, pre's and tube LDC's. The 310's were in my buddy's stash, but I knew you guys would want to see them so I broke open his order......:eek: Hope he doesn't notice. :D:D:D

Good of you to do it [ taking the pix ] likely takes a little email attention
off of chance , if YOU get a chance to take an inside preamp pic that would
also be exciting !

thanks again

Thanks for all the pix, Dr. Bill. Hope the stuff is as much fun to use as it is to unpack.

Definitely the heart goes pitty pat and the stomach goes......well, something or other, but there is a visceral reaction to the anticipation that wasn't there before.

Dr. Bill, when you review and post clips, please start a brand new thread, rather than burying your reactions in The Neverending Story here. Something like "ACM Reviews," so we can get away from the endless snafus and concentrate on the music.

Congratulations on your new acquisitions,
3rd&4thT

Thanks for the pics DrBill!

Would you mind peeling the lid on the pre's and snaping some shots? Maybe some closeups of components (transformers, inductors, transistors, etc)? That way the brainiacs on Prodigy Pro can start picking them apart.
Plus the build quality of the internals is a big question on a lot of people's minds.

And I should say THANKS for all the hard work CHANCE!

Will do. Or since it is drum related, and similar to a previous drum mic shootout, I may tack it on to my previous "drum madness" thread.

Will try to shoot some inside the box pre pics tomorrow if I have time.

Wow!!!!
Those pics got my attention!
I thank you sir!

I ordered two 6802's and one 1200.
Wish I would have ordered two 1200's also.
Also ordered one 84 and now wish I had ordered two of those.
I like pairs of things as that is what I always seem to end up wanting to use in some way shape or form.

Looking forward to working with these.

And if anybody is looking sell a 1200 before they are delivered.....
I need one more to make a pair!

Hey guys. A small, yet I think significant note.

For those of you preparing to RACK these pre's in a standard rack :

The face panels for at least SOME of these pre's are oversize - top to bottom. I dropped my 6 into a rack, and with the lowest pre screwed in, the top pre is a solid eighth inch too high to fit the screws into the pre-drilled holes. The front panels are oversize...maybe 1/64th of an inch - top to bottom. About half a millimeter. It's no problem with one pre, but by the time you stack the third pre it will be difficult to install. By the 4th of 5th pre, it's impossible. By six, I'll have to skip one space and leave a hole. I don't know what happened in China. This is pretty basic stuff. Rack gear 101. I'm not sure how they messed this up, but somehow they did. Maybe the annodising added extra dimension?!?!?!

My solution?

I'm going to pull the metal rails and install some hardwood rails that are not pre-drilled, and drill them myself. This is actually my prefered method as it alleviates ground loops and you can allow for some air flow between units, but if you've got 4-6 pre's and 4-6 spaces in an existing rack....I think you're out of luck.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I figured you'd rather know about it in advance of getting your pre's so you can deal with it in advance.

Will plug in and test tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!! :D:D:D:D:D

PS - other than this issue, I'm still very impressed with the build!!!

edit: I had said something about rack space, but it has been addressed in subsequent posts (my racks, like most, don't have equidistant screw holes)...

Thanks again, Chance, and thanks drBill -- your posts/pics are *riveting* -- can't wait to get the goods.

antichef, you MIGHT be able to fit 4 if you cheat 2 towards the top and 2 towards the bottom. I have a pretty standard anvil style rack with metal rails, and if I push 3 towards the top and 3 towards the bottom with 4 blanks in the middle, I can get them to squeeze in, but I don't dig having them split like that with my 500 rack in the middle.....

But 4 in a 4space rack MIGHT fit. I'd wait till you get them before you buy a new rack.

I'm anxious to get the pres and mics, but I'm a little bummed that I missed out on the TnC Telecaster that Dr. Bill got.

Yeah, they're all mid 60's vintage and were all owned previously by Lowell George. I can't believe you didn't pick up a few........:confused::confused:

Mine actually came with pennies under the bridge - set up for slide players. :):) Actually.......I gotta admit. It's my wife's.:D:D Seriously.

Man..... after seeing the pics of those pres I want that invoice to show up so FREAKIN' BAD now!!!!!! I just got my redco order of parts so I can build the cables for the patch bay and a breakout snake for the mic inputs. I guess that will have to keep me satisfied for hopefully not too much longer.
