Good news about shipping on Monday. If this 14 day information came from the shipper it's probably accurate.

However, by transferring the funds do you in effect pay the invoice? I don't think it makes sense to pay the invoice before the mics arrive. Very risky.

I don't ship anything until I get paid, either. That's a good way to not get paid.

Yes "on the water" LOL
The manufacturer has been "paid in full". This is the norm as I have done in the past. This time tho, I only had to put up 50% up front, and I just now paid the remaining 50% plus shipping. When they arrive at the port of LA, I still have to pay the duty, the broker, and the shipping to me. With my "Fed ex" account, after packing each order, I will have a total cost to ship to you without the hassle of going there, weighing, getting the cost, bringing back, billing you, recieving funds, then take back to ship. Fed ex has a stream lined process where they give me the boxes, I pack & weigh, and print out the label. Several will be picking up in person. I'll let you know when they arrive. I am still working on the out board gear. I believe it will be possible to get some quality gear at low cost. I am very busy in studio, but am almost there. I have some marathon sessions this and next week, but hope to at least post some photos soon

i really hate fedex. they are a poor courier service. out of ever 4 or 5 packages i have come to or going from me, maybe one of them will go as planned. my girlfriend lives in orlando and is giving me her car. she overnighted me the title and bill of sale so i could register it and drive it back to new york. five days later (a day and a half before my flight down there) i managed to get my package by driving TO the fedex warehouse and intercepting it as it arrived. i managed to get the car registered JUST in time. another day and i'd be stuck with a one way ticket to orlando and no car to drive back to new york.... i also had to cancel a recording session i'd payed a deposit for because fedex lost the speaker cabinet i was to use at the session. another time a friend of mine was shipping legal documents for a gigantic high profile corporate case. the boxes ended up completely destroyed... fed ex had been nothing but a source of frustration and financial burden for me and everyone i know.... just my two cents about fedex. i'd rather pay a little extra and know that my merchandise will arrive on time and in one piece.

I will check to see if Fed Ex has any kind of insurance against delayed shipping. If they have such a service, there might be a small Fed Ex surcharge that will reflect on your ship-charge, but if so, you will have a guarenteed delivery date. Any thoughts ?

You are an unusually unlucky person.

i've had lots of problems in the past with fedex (i live in the same area as r.o.m.). apparently they use a lot of seasonal or temporary drivers in our area and where ups has a major warehouse/terminal the next town over from us (yorktown, ny), our area is handled by a fedex warehouse/terminal in ct. i've had numerous packages misdelivered (including ones that were supposed to require an adult signature dropped off on neighbors' doorsteps) or lost forever, and their claims process is a cruel joke. i tried to avoid buying anything with fedex involved for a while (at still try to), but it became inevitable, so i put a sign up on my mailbox (my apartment is a little off of the main road) with specific directions and a detailed map (we're talking about maybe 50 yards here, but they still seem to get confused) of how to get to my apartment. i've received all of my packages carried them ever since, so i'm comfortable with fedex shipping for this myself (i had voiced strong reservations earlier in the thread) but i feel your pain jim and still strongly prefer ups or us mail.

Many businesses give customers choice of couriers, but they often jack up the rates a lot on the couriers they don't want to use  For a nonprofit group buy, I'd say beggars can't be choosers, but Chance is a LOT nicer than I am ;)

I will only use USPS myself, but I get occasional requests for UPS or Fedex. When I tell them the extra cost, they are usually happy with USPS (who have never lost a package I shipped). I also get enough stories from customers, so I can safely say that hatred is fairly evenly split between the three :o

absolutely-- ultimately i think it comes to the character and intelligence of the people who drive the vans-- not the companies themselves.

i was just venting, if chance wants to use fedex that is entirely up to him, not me.

well the whole system they have set up makes it damn near impossible to efficiently correct a mistake made by a halfwit employee. the title for my car for some reason ended up getting sent to vegas and had to spend 3 days in vegas for some god forsaken reason, (probably to hit the casinos and grab some hookers and blow) and they told me each day, "oh we do apologize for this, we promise it will be in NY tomorrow morning."

So what are you saying about the labor pool in your area?

exactly what it sounds like :)
though the folks i have the issue with all are based out of ct :D

I'm pretty excited... almost excited enough to make a roadtrip to Ontario...

You guys gotta seriously post some sweet reviews and such of these mics. I missed this group buy, but I definitely want to make the next one...

We've been patiently waiting most of the summer.. still several weeks out at best.

Is it really necessary to be picky or argue over another day or two by shipping carrier at this point?

Personally... I don't care so long as the show up on my doorstep unharmed. Ship them however is best, sounds like Fed Ex can really streamline the process so sounds like a winner to me...

I'm open for suggestions. With almost 1000 mics thru this forum and several others, as well as countless studios here in the LA area, anything I can do to reduce time and money, will benifit everyone. I still don't have all the facts on the "freight collect" system yet, but will post ASAP

So what was the verdict with this? I found 5 or 6 follow-ups with folks saying "yeah, yeah, sounds good" but I can't find where the facts got posted. Is freight collect still in the plan?
If so, will it save time and/or money?

I just got word that our mics are at the port of Shanghai ........ Bottom line is our mics will be in the water on Monday
