Group Buy Interest?

Well,, I'm back from the "school of hard knocks" Soon there will be another group buy. With the last buy there must have been a mole reporting back to someone at the mic distribution. Every time we were set to purchase, someone thru a wrench in the spokes, and the company refused to sell to us. I spent an entire day with "the minister of doing business in China" and learned so much. I learned that what we thought was a manufacturer, was in fact only a trader! I couldn't believe what he was telling me and he showed me on his laptop PO's from all the brand names. He put me in touch with the actual manufacturers. There are only a few in China. After learning this, at the NAMM show, I confronted the company we all thought was a manufacturer, and like a kid caught with his hand in a cookie jar, they became very hostile to me. They also set up shop at the show and sold products for high prices and said it was the cost of shipping. For obvious reasons I will not reveal the manufacturer I am now working with, but they manufacture from the ground up. Sounds interesting Chance. Do you see anything changing since you're now dealing directly with the manufacturer? (prices, delivery times, product info, etc.)
 
Still working on that. but the prices will include overseas shipping and duty, unlike the last time. The last buy was too time consuming. Also it's not going to be a 3 month long ordeal. When I open it up, it will probably go for 3 weeks and then close. Anyone interested stay alert and watch for postings here.
 
I'll speak with my niece about this idea. In her job, she has been negotiating trade agreements with people in Shanghai and flies there from the States about every other month. She might be a good resource for you.

Interesting kid, with a mind like a finely honed razor. First time she was ever on an airplane, she was 17 and boarded a flight from Boston to Beijing. She attended Beijing University for about three years, concentrating on learning the Chinese language, advanced kung fu and studying the Chinese economy. Her boyfriend at the time was a Beijing rock musician for whom she would fly back to the States, pick up MOTU gear and maybe a Strat, and fly back. Lots of that gear was manufactured there but remained unavailable to the local musicians. He ended up writing and performing the music tracks for all of Toyota's television spots in China.

When I was 17 I had a chance to ride with someone else from Vermont to Montreal and felt kind of international about it all. How times have changed... :D
 
i went from here to nyc at 15 and got beat up and mugged with a friend...

Working directly with the manufacturer, I can offer your choice of cases or pouch (to store mics.) for increased savings. On the tube mics, instead of the 9 position switch, I am using a "variable switch" with a volt meter on the PSU to monitor the voltage going to the capsule I did a mod on one of my tube mics and you can dial in the sweet spot/voltage rather than being limited to 9 positions.

Wow - sounds like it's going to be much more streamlined this time! Between trying to follow the group buy thread, the Yahoo group buy site, creating a name and logo for the mics, wondering what the shipping costs would be and other things, I just backed away on the first group buy. This time, count me in.
 
I'll definitely be watching this. I was wondering why a group buy thread from 3 years ago resurfaced.

I'm in. Let me know if I can be of any help to you. I was very happy with the last buy. I'm hopeful this one works out. Will you be using the Yahoo group for this or should be stay tuned here?
 
Right now, everything is still up in the air. The 3 week long holiday just finished in China and am waiting on them
 
Keep us informed, and count me in. I know I need more mics like I need a hole in the head, but it would be cool to have an infinitely variable tube condenser.

Of course, what I'd really like to see is a tube ribbon, but....
 
i like junplugged's idea. could possibly make a coupla bucks..

And looking through the pictures on your site, is there something similar to
