group buy interest

Hi All,
I'm interested in the next round, but i was thinking about waiting to see what people think of these newer models (if they arrive before too long)

OK, since no one has commented on this, and since I haven't had the chance to get to a Borders store, I'll bite....

What is on page 75 in the Feb issue of EQ?
I finally got to the store to see for myself. The answer is that page 75 contains a press release piece for the Nady ribbon mics. Shows some pictures of the Nady ribbon family, but no real information.

I was referring to the cost vs our cost for the new one more than $200.00 mark up

chance, don't mean to be a pain in the arse but I've sent three emails as per your instructions and still haven't received the group email you sent out a couple Saturdays ago. :(

Wow,,how did I miss this..Im all for this if whoever puts it together would be willing to let me join in. I think I would try a couple of them..Please contact me!!

qiktune I just added you to the list. I don't know what happened. I jus forwarded you an E-mail

In the new EQ magazine, there is an article by a good friend of mine (from another forum) Lynn Fustin about doing exactly what we are doing. As a matter of fact our group buy might even be there in disquise. Lynn is a good man and the article is very well written.

Makes me wonder if any of the major low-cost mic "manufacturers" will respond to self-organizing group buy efforts - not just by dropping prices like in the case of the $89 Apex ribbon mic, but by actually herding the cats themselves. I'd buy one or two from Apex for $89 each - but not if it says "Apex" on it, the brand is a liability.

Perhaps Nady or Apex could create brand extensions - a differently branded, exlusively-manufactured "people's mic" priced well-below their current line of products but above group buy prices such as the deal in this thread. Hopefully consumers would have the benefit of the efficiency of ordering and delivery at still quite reasonable prices.

The Tape Op buy actually went down this way - it started from a suggestion from a single individual but the group mind gravitated toward the offer made by Pacific Pro Audio to manage the deal. PPA took what I considered to be a very small commision for their efforts and provided great service from ordering through delivery. We got user-designed (headbasket and output connection) un-branded ribbon mics for a great price. This "group-buy, unbranded, user-designed" story is a great attribute in the studio. We beat the man sort of vibe. Whereas "check out my cheap Nady / Apex ribbon is not."

There's probably room for another business model between group buys such as this one and low cost name brands manufacturers like Nady or Apex - who, in my opinion, are not really adding much value to the products they purchase from Alctron.

And I wonder how long Alctron, Fielo etc are going to have the patience to deal with small orders such as this one.
