i think some people might be confused because there are two group buys going on right now-- one by magicalpig in france for a stereo ribbon and then the one being coordinated by chance which has numerous models.
feast or famine as far as the group buys go i guess :)

This is one of the coolest threads I've read in quite awhile. Good luck to all of you.

It just got way cooler because you posted in it!

I am going to be taking part in this one for sure!! I've got my (gear lust) eye on the ACM-1310, ACM-13, and ACM-12; (at least) one of each!!

I was hoping to have more information by now but my LA rep is out of town and to ask China one simple question, takes at least a day

Chance,
Do you know if there will be limited numbers of each model for the overall group buy (e.g. only 50 ACM-1310's), and have any sense of what the cut off date might be? Also will there be shipping carrier options (FedEx has a nasty habit of losing packages to my apartment)?
Thanks again for this awesome effort!

Once I get all the information so everyone knows what they are getting, I will open the GB for 3 weeks. The last GB took a month just to get the funds transfered. It might be different this time because I have an LA rep. I don't want this to go on longer than 3 weeks.

This is extremely exciting!! Being new to the home-recording thing I'm looking for a new good mic. The generous time and effort given by Chance is greatly appreciated.

Are all these mics condensers? Specifically the ACM-1583 and the ACM-13. Would either of those mics be a good choice for (primarily) acoustic guitar and some (very little) vocal?

Thanks!

The ACM 1583 is a mult-pattern condenser. I don't have experience with this particular mic, but I'm looking at getting it too. My guess is that it would work fine for your situation. The ACM-13 is a ribbon mic, (which is I believe classified as a dynamic). These mics require a lot of gain. I don't have experience with ribbons, but my recommendation, if you're just getting one, would be to get something like the 1583, because I think it would be more versatile.

Would one of the ribbons be good for really smoothing out female vox?

they are often said to be and that's been my experience with my karma ribbon. since you have some soldering skills, you might want to get one and put in a lunhdal transformer like giganova did-- that should markedly improve the performance.

I have made some changes to the numbers on my products page. Some of the capsule sizes have changed. The capsules are manufactured by 797 audio and is the same capsule thats in the ADK Hamburg mic (#582 & 583 mics)

Hi Chance,

I PM'd you this question (along with some other stuff), but I thought I'd bring it up here (to possibly get a faster response :) ) and to maybe help someone else out. Between the ACM-12 and ACM-13, which would be better for use on drum overheads? By better, I don't exactly mean "accurate" but rather "more sonically pleasing" in relation to the rest of the drumkit.

Thanks!

The post is a year and a half old, were the microphones bought?

Are they any good?

How do you compare a large diaphragm mike to let's say Audio Tecnica at4040 or at3035?

Thanks,

Thierry

As for drum O/H's, it's really a matter of taste. I would use the 310.
Once I get the final information, and it's confirmed, just like last time, anyone interested will send me an E-mail with a code name in the subject header, then I will send a paypal request for the funds.
If anyone here is Photoshop savey, PM me
