It looks as if get to be the first to...
The new phone books are here. The new phone books are here.

No, but the mailman just rang the door and the mics are here. I ordered two of the 10's. Nice wood box. The mic is pretty heavy. Can't wait to try it. Hopefully tonight. I have to record some flute so I'm going to set them up and give em a try.
Chance, thanks again so much for doing this. I'm sorry I didn't buy more mics. Next buy I will.

I am just curious, but did your HRM-10 come with a pouch too. Also was your wooden box finished? Mine seemed to just be nice raw wood and I am thinking to spray some Minwax poly on it to protect from skin oil (fingerprints etc.)

Mine are here!

My two 10"s arrived today.Beautifull wooden box.Nice pouch and shockmounts. Plan to try them tonight. THANKS CHANCE. I will definitely be in the next group buy.

Got the pouch and the box. The box seems to be a mahoghony. Nice rich deep red color. Yes, it could use a protective coat. I like the idea of the Minwax spray.

I am getting a lot of E-mails (18 so far) confirming delivery. quite a few were not home, but they left an attempt to deliver notice on the door. The wood on my 10's are dark walnut

Got mine today, too. Nice cases. Mics are heavy and seem well put together. I'm anxious to try them out.

Got mine today also. Chance, you are a saint! Thanks for doing this.

It appears that mine have arrived as well. Unfortunately, I'm stuck in Boston at the moment, and my flight has been delayed for (at least) a couple of hours. So I won't get to actually open the package until sometime after midnight. :(

But I'm still really glad that they arrived. Thanks, Chance!

i got mine in their nice pretty boxes. i won't get to try them out till later this week. i'm really looking forward to it.

thanks chance. you da man!

I plugged in my HRM10s this morning, just to make sure that they both functioned correctly. I may not get a chance to actually use them on an instrument for a week or two.

One thing that I immediately noticed is that the two sides of the mic have very different tonal characteristics. It jumped right out at me while doing nothing more than turning the mic over while saying "test, test". So it's not a subtle difference. <g>

It's not uncommon for figure-8 mics to have differences between their front and back sides, but it does mean that these mics won't be ideal for M/S applications or other situations where they need to be truly symetrical. It sounds to me like there's some comb filtering happening on the rear side.

It also occurs to me that we probably should have taken Alctron up on their offer to put some sort of logo on the mics. As it is, there's no easy way to TELL the front from the back. I'll have to put a little dot on mine someplace.

And a reminder to everyone (since a lot of us have not been ribbon mic owners before): don't forget to make sure phantom power is turned off before you plug in your new mics!

...another good practice for the owners of ribbon mics is to store the mics in an upright position when not in use...the corrogated 2-micron aluminum ribbon element used in many of the Chinese mics has a tendancy to "sag" when stored on it's side for extended periods of time...this would hamper the mic's ability to properly reproduce sound...some of the mics come with "upright" aluminum storage cases designed to prevent any noticeable "sag" or extension of the folds in the ribbon material...

...also, for those who recently received mics from this group buy, please give the rest of us your impressions of your microphone's performance by chiming in on this thread concerning the Chinese products:

...Thanks, and good luck with you new acquisitions! ;)

So what does a bad ribbon sound like?

Well, I played with my new ribbon mics acquired through the group buy a little. The HRM-10 was first. Given that it looks suspiciously like a Royer R-121, I tossed it up in front of a guitar amp. It seems to be reproducing an annoying buzzing/distortion that is not audible in the room. Noticeably worse when playing in the lower register of the guitar. The other mic (the lollipop looking one) doesn't have this sound through the same signal chain, nor does my Nady RSM-2. So, any thoughts? How would I know if the ribbon is shot?

Does the 10 make this buzzing sound when the guitar amp is turned off?

Dunno. I was unable to reproduce the buzz singing or speaking into the mic; just on the amp.

Just finished a scrub vocal (a track for the back up singer to sing along with) I used the new Ribbon ( the 10). I've not had a ribbon before and it sounds incredible. I didn't know that they sounded so different.
I am amazed that this thing cost so little. It sounds so rich and full and sweet.
Now I am REALLY Jonesin' for an AEA

...sounds like the mic may be picking up some interference from the amp...I've heard this with some dynamics like the SM7 (picking up a faint "buzz" from either the computer or one of the amplifiers)...does the buzz occur when you simply place the mic near the amp (with the guitar plugged in and the volume up, but not actually playing the guitar)?...or only when you actually play the guitar?...

Got my HRM-14 today. I opened up the box and is was packaged well. I took out the mic and heard a rattle so I figured out how to open it up which by the way if any of you who got this mic need to open it up you just put a small flat screwdriver in between the cover and the metal rib and pop it open. It seems a small screw came lose during shipping so I just screwed it back and the HRM-14 is good to go.

I haven't had time to try it out but I'll get to it in the next couple of days. Looks really cool though. Thanks for doing this Chance! :)

Just curious, but to anyone who got the HRM-15, is your wooden box unfinished wood? The HRM-10 has a nice walnut finish, but the 15 seems to be nice raw wood. Or is that just my wood box.
