Hey Randy - I just sent you a message about payment. This is just a heads up in case you're under a deluge of PMs and are only checking the forum :)

Thanks. I believe we just "fixed" your request... Let me know if I can assist further...

Thanks,

Randy

Glad I only waited till the SECOND to last minute to pay. :p Randy will have his hands full tonight I'm sure.

also happy to have used the ACH method.

What's the count on the paid pre-amps? Are the all over 100 yet?

Friday, May 16th, 2008... on this day, Randy became a full-time employee of Wunderifitwerkz Audio... and in about 10 years he'll look back on this as the day he started ruining his liver. :D

I know the system very well, and have faith in it... I'm just a bit concerned that the XML Parser error might raise it's ugly head again... Hope I'm not jinxing us by saying that.. but it's been in the back of my head all day...and I have no control over it either...

If this should happen, I will ask Chance to extend the payment deadline, the same amount of time that we're getting that error... Just don't want anyone to be left out that is trying to pay and might be getting this error...

Let's just pray we don't see it... We've had 61 people pay since mid-night EDT...

Geeze! It only took me 2 hours to finally hit the Pay Button...

Smooth Transaction... Thanks Chance and Randy!

I need the laughing smiley... and lots of them.

I decided to add an acmp84 to the mics at the last minute. I'm paid so no going back now. Very smooth process. Now I'm going to be worse than a 5 year old 2 days before Christmas. I can't wait.

Afternoon Project

Here's my ACM-6802T after installing a Telefunken ECC88 tube and removing the GOLD from the grille and polishing it back to a shine... I also removed the inner-screen from the grille as well...

Randy--how did you get the gold off? Was it easy? Hard? etc

It wasn't that hard...but I also wouldn't call it easy...

The gold layer is very thin... Underneath the gold is a silver layer, that is too, shiny. I believe the screens were meant to be silver, but as a later decision during manufacturing, the gold was put on very thin.. just enough to change the color..

I buffed it off using a cotton buffing wheel... It comes off almost instantly. The bad part is, that it's very hard to get the gold color off the "sides of the wires" on the grille screen... You can buff the tops of the wire, but the sides of the wire will still be gold... I left mine like this for a while, and it looks pretty cool that way too, and started to leave it like that, but later decided to go all silver. Also, there is a finer mesh screen on the inside of the outer grille that is also plated gold... there really is now way to get this off by buffing...just can't get in there with the wheel... I even tried a Dremel tool and it wouldn't do it either... In the past, I've removed this finer mesh, inner grille from all of my ribbon mics, and I like the way it changes the sound.... SO, I thought, why not do the same to this LDC mic?...and so I did..

After removing the finer, inner mesh, you can then get down on the inside of the grille with the Dremel tool with a small buffing wheel and buff the gold off the inside of the grille, and also run over the outside of the grille using the same wheel, to remove the gold from the sides of the wires that I mentioned earlier... The hardest part of all of this is removing the fine inner-mesh... It's welded in and getting it out is a pain...

If you take your time with the Dremel tool, you can get all traces of the gold off and no one would ever tell that it was ever gold in the first place..

Thanks, Randy. Sounds like it might be too much work for me. I was hoping it was going to be something like "dip it in a little vinegar and it'll come right off..."

A few days ago I took my MXL V67G apart to see what I could find out about getting the gold off...I scraped an inconspicuous place, and found that the metal underneath has a light copper/brassy look to it; not a silvery look. Unless I scraped through a silver layer...

I'll probably just leave mine the way it is.

Thanks for the reply!

Well, my friends, unfortunately I wont be able to make it to this Group Buy since I'm paid Monday, too late to pay the order. :( Now comes the exciting part for you guys to wait for the new toys. I wanted my tube mic for Christmas!!! :(

Chance (or others) may have 'excess' that possibly be available. I for one ordered both 6802 and 1200, and thinking MAY BE I only want to keep one so.... We'll see :D
