This MIGHT help.
Once the order is made and manufacturing has begun, it will be at LEAST two months. We will have these months to sort things out. I need my preamps the end of August for a remote. If it wasn't for "Bonehead" our order probably would have been placed by now.

Random thought: any possibility of splitting the boat shipment from China by region and send the U.S.-bound mics to you, the Australia/New Zealand/Asia mics to somebody in that region, and the European mics to someone in Europe? That would probably be significantly cheaper, both in terms of shipping and (for the EU) in terms of avoiding extra import duties. Just a thought.

That would be fine, but any orders over $1000 into Australia incur a 5% duty and a 10% GST. Correct me if i'm wrong but if the Aussie orders are over say $50,000 then whoever accepts the shipment would need to cough up $7,500 plus delivery. If there is any way around this then I might consider utilising some space in my warehouse to facilitate these orders.

Any experts out there care to clarify?

Cheers

Peter

Well, the way I figure, the boat shipping would probably be much cheaper to there since it's not nearly as far, plus you would save all the shipping from the U.S. to Australia, plus you would save the U.S. import duties (4.9% for both the mics and preamps). Do you think the extra shipping charges will be less than 10% of the cost of the mics?

Oh. Never mind. I understand. The issue is simply not having the money to float the costs of the import duties. Perhaps those could be charged ahead of time separate from the shipping charges (which obviously couldn't be calculated until you boxed them up and knew dimensions and weight) so the money would be available to whoever handled it by the time of import. Just a thought.

I'll put my hand up. If all the Aussies in this GB contribute in advance of the extra import duty and GST, then I will offer my warehouse for storage and distribution.
I think collectively we will save on postage. Then again, how many Aussies are we talking about? Anyone interested?

Cheers

Guys, I covered the direct from China thing with Chance months ago.

There's a number of factors that make this option "questionable"...........although irrelevant, I'll use Aust., as an example........it would virtually necessitate Chance keeping seperate records for Aust., guys buying as individuals via the US and Aust., guys buying with "group shipping" as Chance needs to adjust to allow for variations in shipping and import costs. He then has to do the same thing with each and every o/seas order.................the additional amount of work (and stress) would be substantial and personally, I think he's already got more than enough to deal with.....and if this had been a truely viable option, I think we would have had it in place by now.

I realise everyone likes or needs to watch their expenses BUT FFS people, you are already potentially saving bucketloads of cash, virtually at Chances "expense"............PLEASE be prepared to take some of the load and accept that there are going to be some additional expenses.

please...oh please...

oh please let the payment gateway be open soon!

I'm really looking forward to the news that Chance has to pass out...and I want to pay before I'm out of internet earshot for a while beginning this Sunday.

Cool. No dramas. Just trying to help.

Hey tune.......that wasn't directed specifically at you, at first glance the idea seems a good one, especially if "you" haven't done a fair bit of importing and had numerous discussions with the associated Govt., Depts. I guess it's only to be expected that those who are "later arrivals" to the GB, probably aren't going read through this whole thread where some issues have already been touched upon.

Disregarding the amount of work Chance had already put in, the recent Paypal shitfight must have taken it's toll and personally, I feel that we all should be prepared to accept the GB "as is" and for what it is and just let Chance and Randy get on with it without trying to create any further grief for them.

Cheers and see ya at RurtleTock ;)

I agree. I'm very new to these GB things. I only got onto this through "RurtleTock". Chance seems open to these kinds of things based on some recent posts at PSW.

Any orders that might want to combine (group orders?) would have to be undertaken by those of you in those countries. Those who want to do this should NOW start a new topic in all of the forums to get that rolling. It would be nice and simple to only send one order to each country. I'll copy and paste this in some of the other boards existing group buy topics.
If he is open to it and all Aussie members want to do it, then I was merely offering my warehousing facilities. If not then I'm equally happy to pay the postage and enjoy the gear.

Cheers

Btw Registrations Are Open Again

Just a note payments will start on Friday and due to the overwelming response, registrations are now re-opened

Hey I wanted to mention something a little OT, I have been sending many of my mixes to some local mastering houses. The last project I did, time did not allow for mastering. Randy told me that he dabbles in mastering and has quite a list of impressive gear. I sent him the unmastered last project that I just did. He sent me an MP3 of his work (we all know what mp3's do to our work) The mp3 sounded amazing!! I recognized the song, but I thought to myself "Who recorded this??" it was a total transformation. Randy's mastering chops are on the same level as his code writing chops. If the mp3 sounded this good, I can't wait to hear the CD

This is great to know...

Would love to know his gear chain for mastering as well as how he patches everything up...Randy seems like a super-talented guy all around!

Randy??? Can I come spend the night at your house and play with your toys???

Thank Chance for letting us know about Randy's skills at mastering! I'm looking for someone to work with when the that time comes and I'd just as soon help him out.

I would like to hear a clip of before and after too!:D

Guys, guys... :D I believe that Chance has pumped me up to be something...that I'm not! :D

The only reason that I even considered "home mastering" in the first place, was that a few years back, a band that I was playing in, signed a record deal. The record company allowed me to record our own CDs...after hearing a sample of course. On our first CD, the record company sent out my mixes to some notable mastering houses, I won't mention any of their names here cause' I don't want to sound like I'm talking down on anyone's work, but a lot of the country music that you hear on the radio these days, have been through some of these houses...and believe me when I say that "they ain't cheap."

At any rate, I'd never had any of my mixed professionally mastered and I was quite excited that I was gonna finally hear one of my mixes, professionally mastered...

This first CD arrived back to me via FedEx, and I, as well as my other bandmates, and our friends and family that we let hear it, thought that it sounded better before we sent it to them... SO, the record company sent it back out again... Pretty much the same thing this time too, although it didn't sound any worse, it didn't sound any better... SO, the record company sent it back out again... Pretty much the same thing this time around too, although it didn't sound any worse, it didn't sound any better... Maybe I was just expecting too much....maybe my mix was bad... I don't really know for a fact...even to this day... I offered to the record label to let "a guy that I know" (myself, but they didn't know it at the time) try at mastering it, for free, they agreed, and I "did what I sounded good to me"... The record company liked it better than any of the other masters that we'd heard up to that point as well, and it was the version that was replicated to CD... I didn't take any mastering credits on the CD jacket (didn't want to feel like I was stepping on anyone's toes...and I'm not as famous as the guy that's on it! :D)...but I did take credit for the engineering and and I also did the cover design, which I also got credit for on the jacket...

I will go onto say this as to clear up any confusion:
I know a few "famous" artists that use the same mastering houses that we tried, and their mixes come back sounding great... Which leads me to believe that maybe there might be a "fame factor" associated with how much time and effort gets spent on certain projects by some mastering houses...

Anyways, I just "HOME MASTER" my own music, and since I'd only mastered 1 other engineer's work other than mine, I asked Chance to let me give some of his tracks a shot...just for practice, and he did.

I know, I know... home mastering is like home dentistry... I've heard all of those lines and they probably are true... I just can't justify spending the extra cash for mastering, considering the results that I've had in the past...so I do my own...and so far, I've made myself happy...

I have the before and after of the track that I've worked on for Chance... Since it's his work, If he'll give approval to me, I'll make 2 clips for you to hear...

I'm sure that some of you might think that what I did sounds awful, and that's Ok... Some local "music people" around, think that my mixes sound terrible...and I think that theirs sound like bad AM radio... I just do my own thing, and do what sounds good to me...

Thanks!

Randy
