Anybody checked this out yet? If you haven't, you should. The ridiculously hyped reviews of this record aren't exaggerated--it's that good. Well-written, well-performed, and (were you wondering why I included this in this forum?) very well-recorded.

I never really gave a shit about these guys. I bought Dookie due to a couple of semi-cute tunes that got thrown on the radio, but even then I figured that a badly reconstituted Clash would never really amount to anything. Now it looks like they might have succeeded in recording one of the most perfect records of the last God-knows-how-many years. And it seems like the more of a predisposition one has for hating this band (yours truly) the bigger the pleasant surprise at how good this is.

Whaddya think?

Rocks

It is an excellent album. Probably my favorite this year with Fantomas' Delerium Cordia.

what really has bothered me on that record . .is from the song american idiot, when they do just 4 hits on the kick, you can really hear the bleed from the toms, and it's just like, a peeve for me right there. other than that it's perfect

Those four bass drum hits are what enticed me to buy this album....I like the room sound i guess.

Yes, it is quite good. I had almost written Green Day off too. I'm glad they churned this piece out. I still really dig Kerplunk & 1039/Hours.

A lot of people are turned off by this band - I think "badly reconstituted Clash" fits this generalization - but they really do put out a lot of good records. Not Abbey Road type quality records of course, but pretty damn good, nonetheless. Check out some late 80s Green day and the stuff they've done with Pinhead Gunpowder & The Network.

I actually went to see them a few weeks ago when they were in town - Excellent show. Any band who pulls 3 fans from the audience and lets them jam is ok with me.

Thanks, now that song is gonna be in my head allllllll night.

That is just cool as hell.

I'll definitely have to check that out...

I actually liked "dookie", back in the day... :o

Well I don't think it's over produced, but I can can understand that point of view. When I first heard it, I was quite frustrated, how FAT it sounded. Dunno if I wanted to be that fat (I mean my music; I surely am ;) ), but definitely my sound could need a little more of that sound. (Have to check for room modes; it's always a similar prob with my mixes).

BTW: I also like the new bad religion album quite a lot, but grenn day definitely is my favorite of the year. Punk operas have something... Dunno if any of you know the 'Toten Hosen', but they did a record back in the 80ies that also was kind of a rock opera; it emerged from a theatre show of 'clock work orange'.

it's depressing, i can't hate them anymore.

blink 182 better never do anything worth listening to or i'll soon be out of bands to hate.

damn depressing.

American Idiot is this generations Tommy. I know that's a bold statement but I don't think it's that far from the truth. I hate Green Day with a boiling vengence but you can not deny the brilliance of this album. It's about time someone put out something worth the hype.

Very well recorded for the style.
