I can't believe peole actually get paid to do that stuff.

My job, as a mixing engineer, should be to make mastering unnecessary. Once I've done that, then I've proven I'm worth my salt in the mixing department. All I should need to do is run it through the L1 and I should be all set. If the mix needs any more, then I need to focus more on doing a better job mixing. The mastering process should begin at the tracking phase, and continue in to the final mix.

Actually, as a tracker/mixer, I look at it just the opposite. I figure i can send my mastering engineer the worst piece of crap that sounds like total ass, and if he's as good as he claims, he'll just make it into the greatest shit anyone's ever heard! Sure makes my job easy!

One of those articles above mentioned the T. C. Electonics Finalizer. It's a standalone "mastering box"... No more Mastering Houses. Just buy one of these "magic boxes" & you're set.

A local music store here sells them. And wow!!!!, they're only $2,500.00

Oh well, you know what they say, "Anything that sounds too good to be true probably is!!!"

They make it sound like it's "wipe on wipe off". Caveat Emptor.
