Okay, so I've seen tons of different polls and such here in this site, but most of them have been "best/favorite guitarist" or whatever. I'm not a drummer, but I was thinking the other day of some songs that open with drums and/or percussion and thought I'd see what else y'all would submit if I got the ball rolling. BTW, although I like all of the following songs, feel free to include songs you don't care for as long as the intros are cool. So here goes:

Voivod — "Tribal Convictions"
Doobie Brothers — "Jesus Is Just Alright"
Ozzy Osbourne — "Over the Mountain"
King Diamond — "Welcome Home"
Metal Church — "Metal Church"; "Ton of Bricks"; "Merciless Onslaught"
Iron Maiden — "Where Eagles Dare"
Dream Theater — "6:00"; "You Not Me"
Quiet Riot — "Metal Health"
Anthrax — "Aftershock"; "Indians"; "Potter's Field" (if you don't count the sound effects stuff)

I'm sure I've missed some obvious ones, so jump in and sound off, dudes and dudettes! :D :D :p :D :D

american band - grand funk railroad
moon germs - billy cobham
jesus christ pose - soundgarden
a little less conversation - elvis
take the money and run - steve miller band
smells like teen spirit - nirvana

just to name a few off the top of my head. I'm sure they suck to some but to me these are great intros.

peace~

What self respecting drummer doesn't know the little intro to YYZ?

hurricane -kyuss

well i dont know if this counts but i love the waythe drums come in on "come with us"- chemical brothers

ooh nearly forgot to mention U.S. prog rockers trans am's song "am reihm"

. . . I wouldn't count the Nirvana tune, since it really starts with three bars of clean guitar. But including Billy Cobham offsets that, so it's okay. :D

Black Crowes, Hard to Handle.....

Not "great", but very memorable.

Thought of some more!

BTW, an example doesn't have to be a stellar performance if it's at least memorable (several examples are in the group below).

Quiet Riot — "Cum On Feel the Noize"
Trust — "Prefabricated"
Kiss — "Rock and Roll All Nite"
Twisted Sister — "We're Not Gonna Take It"

Gotta stop again, since we're gettin' bushwhacked at work. Later!

That's funny you mentionded Quiet Riot and Twisted Sister. I started a reply with putting both of those in there (as a joke) but I took them out because I realized I was in a more of a serious mood at the moment!:D

The ZZ tune i was thinking of is "Give me all your lovin'." Not "sharp dressed man."

BEST USE OF FLOOR TOM FOR AN INTRODUCTION

NOMEANSNO; JOYFUL REUNION

How could you guys forget Stew?

Man,

every Police record has at least one gem but my faves are Man in a Suitcase and Spirits in the Material World.

Both are short and sweet but the songs wouldn't be the same with out them.

(Tea in the Sahara? it's in like 12/8 or something!)
(That ride cymbal work before he kicks in on Synchronicity! )

damn I gotta go listen to some Police right now!
