I was not a huge white stripes fan until I saw him shredding on what looked like an acoustic. Did anyone see this and what kind of guitar is that? He had that thing sounding like a Bass one minute and screaming with distortion the next...

I know it was a Gibson, but I don't know what model. Looked to be some sort of hollow-body electric, something you'd more likely see in a jazz setting.
I loved the way they were introduced, comparing their sound to "gear falling out the back of a truck." Pretty fair assessment, I thought.
On the other hand, I thought Prince really tore it up...

But by the time Christina Aguilara was done I had completely lost interest and ended up wathcing "Pearl Harbor" instead.

It sort of looked like a sanded down L-50.

There seems to be a lot more to the White Stripe guy than meets the eye. His work on Cold Mountain for instance.

Prince? I was blown away. For bringing the whole package, and mean everything including writing, production, vocal ability, chops, and performance, he may well be the most talented person in show business.

I've heard that Jack White used a Digitech Whammy on the Elephant CD to get the high and low (bass-like) notes.

Eccentric, but talented.

I was with him right up until the end, when he just threw that Telecaster on the ground like yesterday's laundry. I luanched off the couch to catch it before it hit the ground just out of pure instinct. OUch.

And BTW.... I was thinking L-50 too, but was afraid to say it.

Thanks

I knew it was no run of the mill Carlo Robelli acoustic, thanks.. I also thought Prince was rockin last night. Not to crazy about the shape of his purple guitar, but the tele looked sweet. That is until he tossed it on the ground. Couldn't they have provided a stunt squire for that portion?? It was painfull to watch. Although he probably increased the value X2 by having an authentic "chunk" missing, caused by Prince @ the grammys.

Hmmm I wonder if Glen Fry playing my J-200 at the Bob Hope classic on national tv makes it more valueable? Probably not.

I was kind of hoping Prince was playing a Tokai.

We could both be wrong, it may have been an Airline guitar, made for Montgomery Ward by Kay (Chicago Instruments). Bothers the crap out me not to know.

I got a chuckle down at the local music store the other day. They had a used Heritage Les Paul on the wall, and on the tag it actually said "Guitar owned by Kenny G's guitarist's sister".

Wow!

What a collector's piece.

Kenny G, dosen't that decrease the value?? Perhaps he could have his dog piss on it...

who are you people? Anything PRINCE is absolutely, without a doubt, the worst sounding sound ever in the history of mankind.

I would have to disagree. In a world where music is going into the crapper and you can be the next big thing without even knowing how to play an instrument or write your own stuff, the fact that Prince is still out there doing it...producing his own stuff, writing it, playing all of the instruments on it...man, its like he is our last hope....And he hasnt poked any small boys in the process, now he has been with a lot of hot women....

Let me guess

You worship Steve Via and Satriani right....

Yep, but you do need is a cool bumper sticker to glue on your guitar to be really big.

Definitely a Gibson, but I don't think L-50. The headstock was exactly like the headstock on a Gibson Custom Shop Non-Reverse Firebird, but with an archtop-type of body... maybe an experiment gone wrong that Jack White found at a garage sale :D

If you go to their site, there's a pic of the guitar on the "art" page.

Geez, this'll drive me nuts. From that distance it looks just like my '42 L-50 except the top is sanded and it has a white pickguard. The pickguard shape is just like an L-50. I wonder if by the mid fifies they might have made something like that. Though it was stolen, I had a '54 L-50 that had higher end inlay and binding, so I know they played around some with that model.
