So I'm doing this live recording (not a gig, just tracking everyone at the same time for live energy). I have 16 inputs and here's how I'm using them so far (bear in mind I'm a drummer :) ):

Lead Vocal AKG C414xlii
Backing Vocal SM58
Bass, keys and pad DI single input each
Violin Rode NT1
Kick AKG D112
Snare top and bottom SM58 (poss AKG C2000b on top instead)
Mid and floor tom SM58 (again, poss the C2000b on floor instead because floor tom is going to be impt in the tracks)
Drum overheads AKG C1000 x2 XY
Fender cab SM57 or C2000b, haven't decided yet (Another electric dubbed in later)
Acoustic AKG C1000 (urghhhh I know...but only a rhythm track)

So that gives me one more input on my trusty daisychained Focusrites! But which? I work in contemporary worship music, so it's quite centred around pads and electric guitar. So my options are

Stereo Korg pad
Stereo Nord Hammond organ emulator/piano
An AKG C2000b on the cab
DI from the cab so I can alter more later
DI from my acoustic to give some attack to the C1000 (and the C414 will pick it up too as I sing at the same time)
Room mic...but space designer should do that for me (unsentimental but true)

Any thoughts- on my question or other thoughts on my setup plans? Thanks
Ed

Save all formal vocals as over dubs and just do a simple scatch track that would open up a lot of tracks to get the instruments in.

You'll find that the vocals will be much better ... done this way. :thumbs up:

Henry's idea is spot-on. But assuming, you are trying to do it 'live' as much as possible, I'd give up the bottom mic on the snare, DI the acoustic, and make the keyboard a stereo input (most keyboards have stereo outputs these days).
