Cyan, as stated previously I'm not set up for MP3 (yet!).
Besides, the rest of the chain would be fed into a Tascam 564 mindisc 4 track player, and while it's more than adequate for
serious demos, a 2" reel to reel or 24/96 ala Radar would be
much better at subtleties. This is in addition to the serious
signal degradation you'd get inherently on MP3.
A listening CD like the one Studio Projects has on the C series
would be interesting, however, nothing beats hearing it firsthand!
Chessrock here is my "listening resume" on mic pre's either owned or used;
1) Joe Meek VC6Q & VC3Q (nice pre's "rounder" sounding IMHO
Mackie VLZ)
2) Mackie 1202 VLZ Pro (a bit clinical for my tastes/nice for 16 bit)
3) Aphex 107 (quiet/warm dual mic pre with lots of gain)
4) Behringer 802A mixer (always good for a laugh!)
5)
Bellari MP105 (junk!)
6) Neve 1073 (just kidding!)
Your question WAS understood BTW.
Maybe my response would have been clearer by saying that as an
experienced acapella singer it has caused me to be sensitive to the level of TRANSPARENCY-as if NO microphone or mic pre was being used. Alan knows I was able to detect the use of Joe Meek equipment from listening to a Mellencamp single on the radio,
and this was after the station almost squeezed the life out of it
using a typical amount of their on-air compression!
So being corrected for being an 1/8 or 1/16th flat or sharp on my
singing has it's upsides...
Chris
P.S. This is my longwinded way of saying the VTB-1 is very
transparent in solid state mode.
