I got the package USPS today. Very fast from order to arrival if I do say so. I unpacked it and since I ordered a mic stand clip and foam cover for the tip I unpacked them as well. It was packaged as if to go around the world. I couldn't wait to hear what it could do, so I went right down to my studio room, plugged it into an existing stand and cable set up. This went to a ART TPS-II tube hybrid preamp and then into my Korg D3200 Digital all in wonder unit. I gotta tell ya.....I could NOT believe what I heard when I spoke into this mic. Not only was it very quiet indeed, but it made my voice sound like some $1000+ mics I auditioned. I was not believing this, so I broke out my new Taylor 410ce acoustic guitar I got a few weeks ago. I wanted to see if this could reasonably faithfully reproduce what I know this guitar sounds like but through the system without plugging in the Expression system that is built in.

Once again I could not believe my ears. I could place the mic a foot from the guitar and it sounded better than a Sennheiser 614e I have no matter where I would place it. This mic is a wonder indeed. I don't know HOW he does it. I will absolutely HAVE to order some others from Naiant. This is one of those things in your life that defies all logic. I simply CAN'T sound this good.....but alas it DOES......GREAT WORK........I would almost hate to imagine the mic this guy could build if he were to buy parts that would require he charge $500 for it. It would likely KILL some of the boutique mics out there for $5k.....whatever it is you're doing.........KEEP doing it........you'll hear from me again soon....for another one......

i just recieved a pair of 1m's as well. they are amazing. right away i threw them up over my drumset and got some of the best overhead sounds ive ever achieved spending no time at all setting them up. they especially reproduce low end very well. my toms sound huge in my overheads now i love it. i think i moght ask for one of the tube ones for christmas! great job msh. and thank you for everything you do.

Actually I asked MSH about which model would be best for my use. The M is apparently the lowest self noise of them all. I'm used to that I guess. I wanted a 1O but they were not available at the time. Became available the day after I ordered. No biggie. I may indeed have to try one of those tube models as well. You just can't beat these little guys.......soncially they are superb.

Man I've been hearing alot of good things about these mics! I think it's time to place an order! Which ones are recommended for overheads?

I have yet to actually try them myself (an order is on the way), but according to the various threads on this BBS a pair of MSH-1Os sound good as overheads. But don't take my word, do a search and you'll find lots of stuff written about mshilarious' little nuggets of sonic goodness. :o

Are the 1Ms the same as the 1As?

I think he renamed the 1As to 1O or 1C?

I'm confused

But yea I agree about the quality of the mics especially on acoustic guitar.

Post a clip!

No, they are similar to the original MSH-1.

The improved 1A was named the 1O.

Do you still have the 1As? Or are you only selling the 1Os since they are the improved version?

I see the store on your site is closed so I can't look at the ones you have now.

I am going to be ordering some more before Christmas and wondering which ones I should buy for acoustic guitar? The 1Os?

i ordered the 1m's for their lower noise and availabilty. at the time the 10's werent in stock. but they sound equally good on overheads and acoustic instruments. i really havent tried on anything else yet but i would like to see what happens when i mic up a guitar rig with an omni mixed in there somewhere. i heard the engineer who did ride the lightning used a combo of dynamics and an omni right up against the cab so who knows! it may be useable.

Guess what........the 1M also sounds friggin AMAZING on my voice. I can't even believe this. I'm going to kick myself for saying this, but they sound every bit as good as a unnamed $700.00 mic I have.......this is almost disguting  but in a good way. :D I can already see myself ordering a 1O and that nice little tube one he makes. Geez at least it isn't financially painfull to do so.......

Is the 1M cardiod or omni? Whats the current price? The site doesnt show any mic info now. Weird.

Post a clip. I want to hear what it sounds like on a Taylor guitar. I wish I had one. :(

its an omni. its basically a modified msh-10.

I'll work on getting this last song I finished up on my site some time tomorrow so you can hear it. The vocal was done using the 1M. I use a Martin DM on the left side for main and on the right side for accent with the Taylor. Also the guitar lead is with the Taylor plugged in using the Expression system built into the guitar. With a minor amount of tonal tweaking it is a wonderful system for direct recording indeed. Great for live as well obviously. No doubt I'll end up doing some Taylor recording with the 1M as well soon. If you get the gain stages right there is next to no noise out of it, which is quite admirable.

Was it modified for lower self noise? My original omnis have too high a self noise for soft picking parts. Hmmm.
