And it really does sound like .. 30-40 percent better than my crate mixer's preamps with my SP B1! It is now so much more responsive to proximity and the sound is more stereo-like!
Thanks to all your recommendations - at first I was skeptical but .. preamps DO make a difference!

Maybe he means...More transparent or more detailed overall? He could be recording something in stereo with it too, it's got two inputs! It's not so odd of a statement.

What goes in is what comes out from my experience. Never bad to have a pre like that in my opinion. Even if I upgrade to a much better sounding one I don't think I'll get rid of the DMP3. If I do, they're only $150 so no big deal. :)

I think he means a higher-quality sound. More expansive :)

Glad to see another happy user!

+1. Great little pre!

stereo?............

He might be referring to the stereo imaging between the monitors. The imaging of my stereo acou guit recordings improved significantly when I upgraded from a Behringer mixer to the DMP3.

I think stereo-imaging is the correct term for it. It's now more sensitive to when I sing from the left or right of the microphone.
It definitely sounds more hi-fi. I wouldn't recommend it for those who want a raw sound.

Thats interesting, though it doesnt make sense to me. How can a mono mic have any sort of stereo image? Are you referring to the cardioid pattern? Just wonder cuz I have one but havent used it much. Im actually gonna put it to work this weekend through my new M610....

Eh, it's nothing too complicated. Ok just take it as this : when I move my head from side to side when I sing, what is recorded gives me that feeling as well.

Hope this helps

"Stereo image" implies a difference in what you are hearing on the left and right. In order to capture a stereo recording of a single source you need at least two mics. You're not going to get that from a single mic no matter how great the preamp is. When you play back your recording you will get exactly the same thing coming out of your left speaker as your right.

What I suspect you are hearing is a more detailed image, not a more stereo image. It may better capture the differences in how your voice sounds as you move closer and farther away from the source, or on or off axis from the mic.

I think he means that it sounds like his tracks are being played on his stereo?

I suppose I could see that.

Maybe he is playing them over his stereo.

As far as the "moving ones' head from side to side" thing ... Perhaps he's a Stevie Wonder fan?

:confused::confused:

Er... maybe it a proximity thing then? It appears to have that effect... I'm not sure , not an expert here.
Anyway, it definitely sounds better than my crate mixer's preamps, that's all I wanted to say. :)

Well ... if their mixers sound anything like their guitar amps ... :D

Then it was probably wise to upgrade.
