Hey guys,
I got a new amp, a little magnatone varsity. This thing has a single 8 inch speaker, about 10 watts, from the 1940's. Straight tube drive. Anyway, I set up a shure sm7 about 5 in from the center of the speaker, and an AT2020 condenser back and up about 4 ft. The room was a small, empty closet with a wood floor. Epiphone Casino I just wanted some feedback on this sound, it is pretty dry, just a little eq on the sm7 is all. It is the type sound I am shooting for, but any tips would be helpful.

Please give this short clip a listen...Magnatone Amp Test

Thanks

about all I can hear is the room, not much of the amp sound, and something is breaking up too, not sure what that is.

Wow... how far away was that mic? The guitar is so distant..... It was hard to really judge the tone of your amp....

ive got that sm7 maybe 5 or 6 inches back. Should I bring it closer, or just turn down the room mic

The distance is good on the amp, so maybe just turn down the room mic.
The repost it, so I can give some feedback when I get home and can listen to it there instead of the pc here at work....

Ok. I did a little moving of my mics, and some lowering of the room volume. I think this turned out much better. Also, I failed to mention that the toggle switch on my casino is only working for the neck pickup, thus the reason for the muddiness. I tried to eq it a bit. Let me know what you think!
Thanks
Brandon
