Got a Darla 24

I got a Echo "Darla 24" at a (Unknown – As is) table at a Computer "junk store" for $75 US Dollars... (No Manual) but the price on the Box said $499. (Yes they have 3 more of them.) I looked it up before I went and picked it up and it seems to be a card that is well known and respected but maybe older. (In the one I got the card was still in a sealed bag) Everything seems to be there except the Manuals. Looks like I can download the drivers so that should not be a problem. but wonder if it was a good Price? It appears that the cards are no longer a supported item. (Story of my life) The Speck says that it handles 2 in 8 out. I noticed that the cards have jumpers for connecting more than one card together (But I cant see any mention of that on the "http://www.echoaudio.com" WebPages I found) The guy, who does know me fairly well and did call me about these cards, said he would put them aside if I wanted the other 3 :) I wonder if at that price I should maybe go get at least another one so I could have do recording on 4 in at the same time if it was ever something I wanted to do...
It also looked like the Gigasampler can use this card for midi outputs and wonder if it would use more than one card if available. ($75 dollars is in my budget)
 
Are you serious? $75 is a steal! I paid over $300 for mine and I am quite happy with it. It sounds really good and the converters are top notch. I would definately pick up the other one, or two for that matter, if you get this one up and running with out any problems. Even though the card has been discontinued it is still supported by echo as far as I know. Did you go to their website? echo website Did it come with the breakout box and cable?

One thing to be aware of is compatability issues with motherboards. If you have an intel processor with an intel chipset in your motherboard you should be fine. If you have an AMD or a non intel chipset on your motherboard check their website for incompatability issues.

I am sort of wondering about the idea of putting more than one card in the computer… On one of their “advertisement” pages that mentioned I should be able to put “up to 4” of these cards in one machine but the manual doesn’t do much more than mention that it is possible and talks about a 3” jumper cable that is not in my package…
I guess I wonder about why this board with 2 in and 8 out. So if you put in 2 or more boards you would have 4 ins and 16 out etc… And at some point the outs are so many that it is ridicules and the “in” are getting close to what I feel I would like. Oh well the price does seem to be right
 
I don't have any experience linking the cards but you should be able to get customer support from echo on this one.

I agree with you that the number of outs is bordering on ridiculous. 4 ins and 4 outs would make much more sense.
 
Hey I will buy one from you for like $125. I have an Compaq 5150 with an AMD in it how do I find out if it is compatable if he wanted to sell one to me.
 
According to Echo if you have an Athlon you will need a motherboard with one of the following chipsets:


AMD 760 ( Sometimes referred as 761 & 762)

VIA KX-133 ....surprize via made the list :D

VIA KT-133 & 133A


Open your computer and take a peak or find out from compaq what kind of Motherboard you have.
 
Well I got all 4 of them in the computer now...

Well I got all 4 of them in the computer now... But had to take out the Yamaha card that I was using for its midi port.
Yes, they had the breakout boxes... They didn't have the software, Manuals, or this little 3" jumper needed for putting more than one in the same box. I was able to make some but I can't seem to see all of them yet or make sound come out of all 32 output ports (I can get 8 out of the first one and two out of each of the others.) all 8 inputs seem to be working... This might be interesting... Maybe a bit of overkill but if I can make them all work the way they are suppose to it could be a good base unit for adding the giga-sampler (As these cards seem to be on the list of approved cards for that… Now all I need is a good Midi port box – maybe a USB model would be the way to go… Anybody have some good information on those?

Yeah, I was glad to see that myself! I just bought an athalon and abit kt7e (via kt133). Coppermine 700 started to become a pig with more than 8 tracks.
I still don't get why they didn't run a cd input or include midi support. On their site they tout some happy horse shit about running a lead from the phone jack to the inputs. Get real!
Now, where did I throw that sound blaster?:D
 
Most of the echo audio stuff has always been excellent.

I have a 16-bit darla card. It was the first (serious) card I bought about 3 years ago. I was goin' thru sblives like they were toilet paper.

Paid $330 for it U.S.

Support and driver upgrades have always been excellent via web d/l 's.

Still use it for monitoring and 16-bit masters.
