Cool Out Charger

So you don't like the Strokes, big deal. I'm not their biggest fan either and they are definitely not the "second coming" or anything like that. But, hey, I still enjoy the album on occasion.

There is no need to be bitter over the fact that all the bands you named have already broken up. Are you trying to make a reference to the whole, it's not cool because it's not old-school, thing?

~Sarcasm~
You know, it seems that almost everyday now I listen to an older album that I own and decide..."Man, I can't stand the production on this album." So I just go sell the damn thing for 3 bucks. It's crazy. All I have left are a bunch of Stooges records that sound just like the albums I decided to sell. Life is hell...

aww come on fellas..... lets not turn this into a credibility by budget discussion. You dont have to be poor to reach back and sound like it. There isnt anything wrong with a garage sounding recording if that is the intention. Personally IMHO i like the strokes recordings. ...And wether or not it cost a mint to record really isnt an issue. If it cost 75 bucks and was recorded with an old 8 track the guitar player found in his closet.... or 100 grand and was produced by Joe Bigshot... ...its really the same thing, isnt it? They targeted a sound that they wanted.... AND GOT IT. That philosophy also lends a bit of hope to broke bastards like myself who take a bit of creative inspiration from the possiblity of creating fresh sounds with a very limited budget. Instead of constantly striving for a perfect FM radio production and recording.....relax.... and let the song dictate how it should sound. .....just venting.... thanks for letting me indulge.:p

hey db51, could you like scan that article or something. i really, really want to read it...

could you like scan that article or something

C'mon, you can find Sound on sound in the US, can't you?? Just read it off the newsstand if you can't afford it :)

It will be available for free on www.sound-on-sound.com, but not before a couple of months...

It would be illegal to scan the entire article, but if there are any specific points in which you're interested I'd be glad to quote some passages ;)

Well, without putting any values into it I have to say that the Stooges *Funhouse* album is one of the best sounding albums I've ever owned. Ashetons guitarplaying is fantastic! Btw, he recorded all the solos before he layed down the rythm guitars. Pretty cool.

The Strokes album has got an ok sound. Their biggest problem is that they have absolutely no songwriting abilities at all! Or maybe it's just me getting bored quickly with repetitive songs that never go anywhere? I believe people wanted something different and they happened to come along in the right moment. The time was come for the old mid 70's CBGB's stuff to come alive again. Everything goes in cycles. Even disco's back again

As for the Hives I have to say that their latest album has a very good productiion. They sound raw even tho they're very produced (almost overproduced). I'm still wondering how they got that guitarsound, tho? Now that's loud...

However, big thanks to db51 for the info that actually started this thread! It's always interesting to find out how albums have been made.
