I have these in my bass trap thread but I liked them so much I though they deserved their own! Awesome free software from Google allowed me to model my studio so i could plan my bass traps.

Google SketchUp

Yea, Sketchup is great for modeling your studio. Me and a few others have been posting Sketchups here for years. But when it comes to actual detailing of complex elements, it really shines. I couldn't have designed my computer enclosure without modeling the modded computer cases them self in the first place. Once I knew how everything fit together, I was able to execute the plan. So yea, Sketchup can be indispensable when it comes to details.

Here's a few jpegs of details in the files

First an overview of the console. This doesn't show everything as I was only configuring the computer enclosure relative to the console.

But the REAL trick was to model the computer itself first, so I knew how to mod it. First I had to research various computer STANDARDS, like Mobo, PCIe, etc etc. Not an easy talk, especially the mobo/Pci slot relationships. Took a month to find them on the net. Once I understood how these relationships manifested themself in an actual case, the rest was easy.

But reorienting the HD cagewould have been impossible without Sketchup

In fact, the whole damn project would have been impossible had I not had Sketchup to model it first. Here is the project almost completed

And yea, I used Sketchup to design my studio CR too.

Unfortunately, modeling it and building it are 2 different animals.:D

Good luck with yours.

Excellent man - that is really nice work. Cool to see the real photos with it too. Amazing set up you have there fitZ. Is that wood floor floated over the existing carpet?
I was considering ripping out the carpet and putting in wood floor - but it would have set me back about $600 so I opted not to. But I could build me a little wood surface like an area rug made out of wooden flooring... Hmmm

Is that wood floor floated over the existing carpet?
No. I installed a 24" wide strip of Black carpet around the perimeter of the room first. Then I installed a metal carpet threshold. Then I filled in the middle area with Laminate flooring, and then installed a custom wood threshold to hide the raw edge of wood.
Turned out perfect. At least for me. It looks exactly like it does in the studio Sketchups.

I even modeled the threshold itself, so I knew how to machine it.:D I made it out of a pre-finished maple plywood.

Actually, I've modeled everything in my studio. from the Soffit's to the treatment.

:)

Oh man that's interesting! I currently have a carpeted practice room and I was considering removing some of the carpet but not all of it. Then I was trying to figure out how to make a room part carpet and part concrete or wood without looking odd. Yours looks very nice IMO. Maybe I would do something like that.

I just got started with Google Sketchup after looking at some of this stuff. Read through the really huge one where the bass traps were done from scratch too. Really awesome stuff, the lot of it. I just wish I'd had more experience with this 3D modelling malarky. Need to get the hang of it and get in those fine tuned details. =]

The videos helped me get started pretty quick - although several years ago I worked with some 3D program called Bryce and a few other misc. ones so I had a little background in it. They have great videos tho
