Good way to record Snare

When I mic a set, I try to make sure the set sounds as good as possible before hand. Also, make sure the player is well warmed up and everyting. You're already two thirds of the way there. I doubt you have a great room to record in, but dont be afraid of letting some air in those mics. A drum set is an acoustic instrument, it needs to breathe in order to perform at its optimal level.
I usually start with a good overhead pair. I've found that alot of the time, I end up using this and maybe the kick alittle. Then, of course put a mic on the kick. Usually a couple of inches from the front sounds alright by me. The overheads tend to pick this up fairly well. If I do mic the snare, I mic the bottom. This is just to add a bit of depth, and I put it back in the mic a bit. I use it just to bring the snare up a bit. I've gotten some pretty bitching drum sounds with just four mics.
