Where would be a good place to purchase a Studio Projects C1 from? You guys know all the good places. I'm a newbie and I could use all the help you are willing to impart. I'm looking for a good warm vocal mic on a budget and this sounds as if it will fill the bill. This way I can do a good job of recording myself both singing and playing badly. ;)

What kind of pre-amp would work best with this mic? I have a digitech RP-6 that might work OK unless you folks would advise against it. I plan to set up some vocal track pre-sets that will be specifically for vocals even though it is a guitar rig. I think most guitar processors would probably do in a pinch to add effects to vocals given the similar range of guitars and vocals.

only your ears and your needs can tell if the Digitech will cut the mustard....Id go for a Joe Meek.....yummy.....

I doubt the RP6 has phantom power for condenser mikes; the C1 won't work without it. Also, most guitar processors are too noisy for vocal tracks; I don't recall the Digitech offerings being the quietest units...had some great guitar sounds in them though.

Get one of those little M-Audio preamps if you don't have a mixer with phantom-powered mic inputs.

I think you are right. No phantom means no mic. How much is the Joe Meek? Better yet, which board should I buy given my severly restricted budget? A board would make infinitely more sense than a single preamp. I'll do the effects using the plug-ins instead of the RP-6. Believe it or not, but the noise on the RP-6 isn't too bad if you don't crank the gain way up. As long as you aren't using distortion, the noise is bearable. Depends on the effect though...

i just got a soundcraft spirit f1 board off of ebay for $265. it has 8 pres with xlrs (phantom pwr), parametric eq, and the word on the street is that soundcraft pres/eq are more usable than mackie vlzs. i usually see the board i got go new for about $460, but i got an email from another guy offering to sell me an f1 for $300. of course i can't take him up on the offer since i already purchased another one, but if your interested i could send you his email/#.

Scott,if you are on a tight budget you could check out the new B series from Studio Projects($80-$300).If you need an inexpensive two channel mic pre check out the M-Audio Audio Buddy($80).
