Hey did you know that there are DJ schools in japan. That's nuts.
I don't think that the idea of a DJ shool is nuts. I've seen one in every country I've been in (sorry about the preposition at the end of that sentence

).
H*ll, I'll probably start a school here in chicago around the beginning of the 3rd quarter of 2002.
A lot of these newer dj's do not have the basic skills of dj'ing, let alone any idea of how or what they should be doing to create and improve these fore-stated skills.
Where do you think "slamming" came from? And before that ... the "back-spin". It started because they didn't know how to blend and they didn't know how to "hold" a blend.
When I was in Paris, at the DMC shop all the DJ's there at the store gave private dj lessons to people who wanted to learn how to mix @1000 franc per hour ($200.00).
Meaning how can you develop your own style and skill with someone instructing you.
You are just learning the fundamentals of mixing (dj'ing) (I'm talking about HOUSE MUSIC). In terms of Hip-Hop, you are learning
that AND the basics of the more complex scratches, beat juggling etc.
Most people will develop their own style of combinations and techniques (if they are innovative

).

I started mixing way back in 1982 (there weren't any dj schools at that time).
Everything I learned, I learned on my own.
I would also like to mention that I would like any and everybody get a "step ahead of the game" (that's why I posted the link. I thought it might help somebody
The link I posted was just some reading material to the DJ's of this forum. I saw some very important things inside that site.
For example, It stated some things that
I had to learn the hard way, like.... "spliting the crowd" when you're spinning at a club.
The average "new" dj would think that he/she is doing their job, by having all the people on the dance floor.
But, in reality, if everybody is dancing, then the bar (
read OWNER) isn't making any money.
At the beginning of the night you want to watch the crowd so you can play the right music for them.
You also have to play good music to keep them there at the club so they don't leave, but you don't want to play too hot, because you don't want them dancing yet, either.
Another point I had to learn the hard way, was...
ALWAYS play for the WOMEN, f*ck trying to make the "hard legs" happy, make the women happy.
You have to remember that men are nothing more than "stimulated dummies".
If the women have a good time, they'll come back (and with more girlfriends).
If there are women at the club, the guys will come in droves, and they'll spend all their money on the women at the club, by buying them drinks.
If the men are spending money at the bar then the OWNER is happy, beause HE/SHE is making money.
If the owner is making money on YOUR hot night, then you'll be making money and YOUR night will be
safe.
good link spin keep em coming
Thanks DJ2422
