Good deal for a roland a-33 ?

Hiya guys

I'm in need of a good masterkeyboard , with all the features you need for a homerecording studio

saw a deal on a roland a-33 in a store for 430 euro's ..
it was only used in the store for demonstration purposes
is this a good deal , or is it way too pricey ..
or should I go and look for another model
I have no keyboard backgound (being a guitar player and all) but had a musical education and I was capable of playing a little bit just no fancy stuff :)

I just want a good velocity-sensitive keyboard ..
as soundfonts , and stuff like that could be emulated on my PC for now ..

Around 200 Euros brand new, and better all around MIDI controls than the Roland.


However, if it's the weighted action that turns your head, get the Roland, unless the latest offering from Fatar is an improvement over the action of their previous efforts. The new Fatar Studio Logic is being touted highly and they pronounce that their "throw" mechanism is superior to typical weighted actions. I wouldn't know not having sampled it myself. It is cheaper than your Roland, and comes with Cubase AV and Opus to boot. I don't know what you get in your Roland package, I suspect you have to work that out with the store manager.

I presume no SW ..

but that doesnt bother me I got the SW I need ..

I played with a friends keyboard (a casio playtoy thingy :)) but there was no velocity-sensitive on that
so every note sounded as loud as the other ..

what diefference is there in keys
velocity sinsitivity
weighted keys ..
after touch

they kinda all mean the same to me .. could someone enlighten me ?
 
Hello, they don't mean the same at all.

Velocity sensitivity means that the keyboard transmits how hard you hit the keys. There are 128 values for velocity sensing.

Weighted keys means just that, there are weights in the keys making the action a little heavier than the usual synth action.

After touch means that when you hit the key and hold it, then press it, there will be values sent for how hard you press the keys. This is very important, and many synths have patches that respond to after touch. Like you could program a filter to come in or out depending on how much after touch was being used.

is that a nice price for a a33 or should I get something else ?
 
Controllers are cheaper than they used to be. At one point, the A-33 was a good deal, but prices in general have come down, and I don't think the A-33 has. $430 seems high, but I don't know how $US translates to $Euro...

Look at StudioLogic for some good cheap controllers.

multiply by 0.8 to get to euro's I think

and add 100$ to fedex it to europe if you want to buy something in the states :)

the a-33 was allready gone missed it by 2 days well
I got that casio toy thing from my friend to compensate ..
beats the hell out of a qwerty keyboard :)
