A lot of the stuff DJL wrote about PMI and their products was true. Obcessive the posts were, but they had a lot of truth to them. PMI's claims about the quality and "designs" of their microphones certainly wildly exagurated. We have lots of vintage and modern high-end products here as well as SP and believe me the mikes are not much different from any other generic Chinese mike.

However commercial sensitivities took over and resulted in a flame war which involved PMI and many others (even Harvey got on the act). In my opinion DJL had to DEFEND his position. This forum may hold PMI as a religion but the prosecution of someone expressing an opinion, however stron it may have been, is shamefull.

I believe that this is right. Alan was pretty cagey in the beginning and definately stretched the truth on a number of occasions. I can only shake my head when he says something in one post, and retracts it in another post and people defend him without reading what is appharently plain english. I gave up but DJL did not. He went overboard, but, let the spammers in for long enough and you will find out what direction the forum will go. I have seen other forums become such that no one posted anymore except for endless spam.

The fact that DJL had a dissenting view of the PMI mics has never been the problem here, AFAIK. The problem has been DJL's unsupported accusations and suppositions about these mics, presented as facts. His claims that the Behringer B5 and the PMI C4's were identical mics, the color dots were an indication of bad QC, and the list goes on and on. Even when Alan Hyatt recommends another brand of mic, DJL sees it as spam.

I have no problem with people saying they don't like this mic or that mic for a particular application, and yes, I agree that they're just a mic (well, the SP T3 is outstanding, IMHO), but DJL just keeps on pounding Alan and PMI, usually based on suppositions and on claims (that DJL makes) that are patently false.

Those are the main areas where I have problems with DJL. The Studio Project mics are decent mics for a fair price, and their service is outstanding. Are they the equivilant of a Neumann or a Brauner or a Schoeps? Of course not. Will they work better than a Neumann or a Brauner or a Schoeps for some specific applications? At times, yes.

They're not as great as Alan would have you believe, and they're not as bad as DJL would have you believe. They're simply decent mics at a fair price.

True, but, I have read several posts by Alan where he directly said one thing and denied it later. I would sit there and read the posts and think "why don't people see this? It is in plain english". DJL may have taken the extreme way to express his opinions, but a long time ago he was mainly right, as Chessrock was.
