I was thinking since I'm getting out of high school in a few years of going to a school for the Recording Arts. I Found one pretty local from here Full Sail http://www.fullsail.com/ Do you think their is a real chance of me going out their and making a good living in the field of this kind of thing? Is it all worth it? Please say something if you have anything to say.

Your question is kinda abstract and better left up to a counselor that can look at your abilities and then guess at the answer. It's almost like asking " If I play the lottery will I get rich? "

Like in any field though, if you apply yourself you have a better shot at being successful. You're still young so stay in school and broaden your horizons before you make a lifetime choice like this. You owe it to yourself to make an informed decision.

I've been looking into FullSail myself as well.

Did you know they don't even provide housing? They're not even a 4-year college.

That turned me away. Right now, I am most intrested in Berklee's Music Production and Engineering Major.

scad (www.scad.edu) has a kick ass new sound dept..... tons of nice mics ( u87 all he way down to a ton of sm57s..)

check it out

FullSail is also in Winter Park in Orlando...That is a very pricey place to live, but my Dad knows the area and some people that live their very well so I think it wouldn't be that bad for me. For my skills...I'm pretty much clueless. I don't have the money for gear to play with nore know of any decent studios in my area so I really dan't have any experience. The degree at FullSail is only a year so I could even goto FSU or something and get some more degres to fal back on.

think about your love of music....dont think about getting in it to get rich....that will make the music you record better than the idea of well this guy could make me rich so I'll record him. the other thing is check about community college recording programs...i was part of getting one started at the community college where i live. skills man! its all about what you learn! not where you go to learn it...although its nice to throw around berkley on your resume..it still doesn't show me how good you are. just keep your options open :)!

oh yeah and getting a degree to fall back on is KEY! and with so many people doing a ton of home recording....i think mastering may be where a chunk of change could be made if you are into that. and what about being a sound engineer for live bands....that is a great front for having your own studio and all and great for advertising....people like how you can make a band sound live...give them some cards about your studio and knock it out. the guy i learned that from has a day job as an apartment manager. he has a few guitars in his office, people wanting to move in ask about it, he tells them, they pay him to rent a place, do some sound work for their bands or bands they know and then gets them in the studio....i wish i had thought of that

I was thinking of doing live stuff too. That really sounds like a real rush. I'm not out trying to make millions at this but I want to have a nice living but not have to scrape up money for stuff.

I had a choice of going to the Art Institute ($36,000) or UW ($2500) and I chose UW, of course. I decided that if I felt I needed more schooling I would go to the Art Institute after.

What it really did for me was open my eyes to how easy everything really is. If you get time to intern, intern. It's free, all it costs is time.

In order to get where they are all you need is gear and time time time time to figure it all out and learn how to use it. You also need pretty decent equipment.

Really, though, skill is what it's all about. Do recordings for local bands and teach yourself what recording is all about.

For reals.

How much are we talking if you'd guess going to FullSail would cost?
