I'm going to AES to demo some new "console-top monitors" that have been very well received by a number of pros already. I've got the trip pretty well planned out for me and my wife, but I'm gonna need a cheap place to stay, which means anywhere near the center is out of the question.

So, are there any cheap places to stay anywhere near a station where I can commute to the center?

NYC right? Well, I'd just pick a borough and a hotel if you want to get there by subway. If you want to be out of the city and don't mind paying a little bit for train fare, I'd recommend either White Plains or Tarrytown. Both have some nice cheap hotels or motels, restaurants and things to do. Tarrytown is one of the nicer river towns on the Hudson. Both are about 30 minutes out of Grand Central by express.

Not sure where this is exactly but if it's in NYC, Portland Sq. hotel is right around the corner from Radio city and such and it was a nice hotel that was cheap to stay at. We stayed there back in '06 when I saw David Gilmour.

Harvey,

We took a vacation cruise to Bermuda in September and then came back to spend 4 days in NYC......we stayed in Secaucus, NJ which is just west of Manhattan....very easy to get into Manhattan from there, buses run all the time.......check out the hotels at Harmon Meadows in Secaucus....there is a plaza that has a La Quinta, Holiday Inn, Hyatt Place, etc.....a bunch of restaurants in walking distance, even a WalMart nearby to make you feel at home:D

Cheapest chain hotels are generally going to be the "airport" editions. Trouble with NYC is that it is a haul from any of the airports to Manhattan. That said, if you don't mind leaving a bit early, i think that from JFK, you can take the air train to one of the subway stops then ride the train all the way through to Manhattan, it has been a while, but i think that after the air train to the subway, then pick up the G that will bring you to Brooklyn and you might switch to the F or J to get into Manhattan, probably about a 1 hrs 45 mins. Newark or other NJ-near-the-train-to-NYC is an option as well.

It's starting to look like the best plan is to stay in Secaucus or Newark and commute to Javitz Center every day. I can put up with airport noise.

Harvey,

The night before we got on the ship to Bermuda, we spent the night at a hotel near the Newark Airport....the noise wasn't bad.......BUT Secaucus is closer to where you want to be........the NJ Transit bus came by our hotel in Secaucus about every 15 minutes.....it took us north then east thru the Lincoln Tunnel and then out to the 42nd Street Port Authority terminal (about 15 minutes or so). From there you'd either walk or I'd suggest a quick cab ride.....it's only a few blocks over to the Javitz Center at West 34th St and 11th Avenue.
