Ive been browsing the forums lately looking for various approaches at micing guitar cabs. There seem to be a lot of different ways to do it and I thought that perhaps it would be beneficial to have one "go to" thread to see how we all do it. So post your technique, gear used, and the genre of music you record with that specific setup.

Ok....Just about any distorted guitar,an OLD beat to hell and back EV RE10 ( this ones special for some reason or another) closed fist distance (about 3 1/2"-4")away from the dead center of the cone, turned to aim at the edge of the speaker ( off axis from the center),adjust to find the "sweet spot",might move it closer to the edge, through a Summit MPC-100A as hot as I can get it , mild compression to keep from peaking. Sometimes with an old AKG C414-EB (or any decent LDC),padded, 1-2 ' back (or more) from another speaker, through a Demeter VTMP-2a, once again,as hot as I can. Pretty common set up, but it works for me. Occasionally, another mic on the center, 421 or 57.
