Glad I bought the V-AMP and not the POD.

CHARGER,

I did post a link to mine, have you. Is that short enough?

I meant to post stuff you did with your V-AMP! Something recorded in late 1998 is obviously NOT with the V-Amp. As always, my stuff is at http://charger.iuma.com, and I could make tons of excuses about how long ago I posted it and blah blah blah, but the bottom line is, all guitars and basses are Pod and Bass Pod, all drums are FruityLoops.

Pod Shmod. I just dont get those designs. Hell Just put it in a rack or pedal form like god intended. Thats why I chose the DGstomp, GT2. And Im salivating over the new GNX 3.

charger: bla bla bla.. I just bought the damn thing last week, and you expect me to post a song? I've got this thing called a life. and as I mentioned already I put great care into my music. so when I have something ready be guaranteed I will link it here. However, I didn't post this topic to prove a thing to you or anyone else, merely giving a thing called a review, since is this is REVIEW forum, or are you that much of a dumbass that you didn't realize this fact.

Id Crack it in half the first day trying to walk away with my ax.

I'm sorry Mistral, was it you that posted the thing I quoted? I thought it was Boardman.

And posting something called "Glad I bought the V-Amp and not the Pod" doesn't strike me as a "review;" it actually sounds more like an expression of happiness. Now maybe if you had posted "My Review of the V-Amp" you wouldn't have gotten so much friendly discussion.

If that's what your post was, then I would concede you that point.

And while you're at it, don't call me a dumbass. You know nothing about me or my level of intelligence, and there's no need for you to go there.

However, you did say
my goal isn't to dog the POD.
IMHO, that is total bullshit. Your whole "review" was basically how the Pod couldn't touch anything that your V-Amp could. If your "review" was really about the V-Amp, why did you spend more than half of it talking about the Pod?

And why the fuck am I even engaging you in this discussion? I need to ignore this topic.

yes, the topic name is an expression of happiness. I ended up with the product I set out to buy. The right features at the right price, the right sound.. etc. Since my purchase was going to be one or the other, the POD is every bit as relevant to my post as the V-Amp was. In the respect that from both reviews, my past experience of Line 6 products, (which is overall good but I'm saying I had basis for comparison) as well as clips people I know sent me of their POD's, I had plenty of reason as well as right to say what I said. You'll find I often say stuff like "from my experience" and "in my opinion".. that's typical of a review. it often makes comparisons. So while my goal was not to dog the POD as I said, something has to lose, and I explained why I believe the POD lost. All perfectly relevant reasons really.
The reason I called you a dumbass is because quite frankly you're arrogant. I'm sure you took some offense to my review being a POD owner yourself correct? That's your problem. If "hearing is believing" as much as you say it is, there would be no reason for people to write a damn thing. But since I am fully aware that taste in tones, production, style, etc differs, and doesn't necessarily tell all when it comes to the performance of a product anyways, I think you're just shooting off your mouth to defend it through some means where you currently feel you have an advantage. ie, the v-amp users in this thread don't currently have recordings of them, and you do of your POD, so you're victorious. yeah, right.

Mistral,

I tried to tell you. I have found many on this site that know everything about everything and I still wonder if they really have a life. IMHO, just drop it. It isn't worth your time. You know what you got for your hard earned money and so do I. The v-amp is by far the best bang for the buck out there and anyone that can't see that is just not faceing reality.

Also, it's damn hard to post something you don't have. The pod has been out for at least a year or more than the v-amp and like you I just got my 2 v-amps about a month ago. I'm in the studio now with my band working on our new CD (our second) and you can count on me posting our stuff when we are done. It will take us about a year to finish, because unlike other people on this bbs, we all have lives to get on with. Music for us is a hobby. ie (HOME RECORDING). We are not stars and are never going to be stars. Hell, I'm 51 and the rest of the band is right behind me.

Anyway, ROCK ON

Peace

Boardman

Hey, let's not forget....

the Boss GT-3 . I have owned this thing for almost 3,5 years, and I finally get really good sounds (Final Countdown guitar-solo sound, AC/DC lead/rhythm-sound, REALLY GOOD Deep Purple-sound) The only BIG problem with the GT-3 is,
whenever you make bendings in the higher regions of your axe's neck (say 14th fret-19th fret), you'll be hearing this weird FM-modulation kinda-sounds, you know, like tuning an old radio ("GWWWIIEEEEUWWWWWWWWIEEEWWWWWWW"). I played on a POD 2.0 and a Line6 Vetta, these don't have that problem.

But having a fairly decent amp-modeler (although to some outdated as hell :( ) I find it hard to justify spending over $350 for a POD 2.0, $650 for a POD Pro, or even $700 for a Tech 21 sansamp PSA-1)....

I still have a MT2 Metalzone.... :D

anyway, Mistral, here's another die-hard old skool Metalhead, who likes bands like Iron Maiden/Slayer, not Linkin Bizkorn-crap...

80's METAL RULES!

Boardman is right

The real test of any equipment is what you do with it. A lot of things we like now are things we hated until someone we respect got good results from it. I have a POD2 and a Johnson modeling amp and I find both to be very useful for recording at any time of the day or night. Once you have a sound you like programmed in there is never any problem getting that exact sound instantly with no muss or fuss. I want to add the V-amp to my arsenal. That being said, I don't really care for them live, (or any digital guitar stuff really). After all, your signal goes through a A/D converter.. the processor does whatever it's gonna do and then it goes through an A/D converter before it gets to the speakers. I don't care how fast the converters are; it still takes some amount of time to do that. Now I'm NOT saying there is a discernable time delay,..but I find they don't quite have the snap of a real amp. I can never put my finger on it exactely, but there is something not quite quick enough about them. On gigs I use either my Hot-Rod Deville ( 4-10's) or my Vibro King. I'm not critisizing the amp-modelers, (I love both of mine) but that attack thing is something that for me on live gigs keeps them from being quite what I need. Still, I want that V-amp.

Lt. Bob,

Thanks for the back up. You hit the nail on the head. All the new modelers are good. They all have there place. They all do something different than the others. My band doesn't play live anymore. Just to damn old to haul shit around.:) In the studio, we use our v-amps and run direct. For that, they are great. And the neighbors don't call the cops at 2 in the morning. :) I do know what you mean about live gigs though. Personally, when we were playing live, about a year ago, we still ran direct to the board. No amps. It was more of a thing of not having roadies to haul all our shit around than anything else and it worked fine for the places we played.

Everyone, keep on keepin on.

Peace

Boardman.

Yea Boardman, I totally agree. You know, I don't know what it is about live versus recording. When I'm recording, the modelers sound just fine. They really come across as actual amps if you set them right. Conceptually, I can't figure out why a live gig would be any different but it is. "Is a puzzlement". I'm 50 so I'm a geezer too. :D But I just can't beat the gigging jones. So I run my buisiness during the day and still play 2 to 4 nights a week. Mornings aren't quite as cheerful as they once were though. And when a pretty girl comes up to me,... she usually wants to know "Aren't you a friend of my dad's" :( I usually just say "Oh yeah, come on over here and I'll tell you all about your dad. ;)

Hey Charger, that's an Ebow I hear on Mechanist isn't it? I thought I was about the only one here who uses one. Nice dreamy tone you got on the first couple of minutes of that track.

Lt. Bob

I would still be giging as well, but I have had 2 heart attacks and I just can't do it anymore. I loved it and still miss it, but the studio keeps me busy and I don't have to work physicaly hard. Is it me or are these young girls better looking as we grow older. :) I know what you mean when a young'un comes up and says, hey my parents know you. The lead player in my band and I do play once in a while as a duo. We just use acoustics and play old hippie music. The pa we use for that gig fits in the back of my car. That isn't too bad. We just don't play very often. Maybe once a month or so.

As to the live vs studio with modelers. Could it be that it has something to do with acoustics. I mean, in the studio, you have no delay in the room (to speak of) where as live, even in a small club, you do have room delay. Could this be what you are hearing. I don't know, just throwing out things. I just don't think that there is enough delay in the process for the human ear to pick up. But then again, I have never tried to catch that.

Anyway, nice to hear from you.

Keep on keepin on

Boardman

Man...sorry to hear about the heart attacks. I just got told I had high blood pressure so I'm on the food-with-no-flavor diet. Getting old ain't for wussies. You'd like my duo. Sequenced and playing all that great music from days of old. As for the modeler question,.. Maybe the room interaction could explain it. It's not like there is a time delay I can hear,...I'm not claiming to hear that. It's just the snap and instantaneous response isn't quite right. Ya know, maybe it's because on a gig I go through an amp. Maybe it responds differently to a modeler than a board does. Hmmmm....I'll have to check in on that. It would be nice to carry less crap. Take care of yourself, I hope you don't have anymore problems. :)

I was 43 day before yesterday. How old do you have to be to reach geezer status? Or did I already reach it a few years ago? I had to quit visiting the web developer forum I belong to. If the mods there find out you're over 40 they take away your icon designation (junior member, dedicated member, etc) and replace it with "wrinkled member". My heart just couldn't take it....

Lt. Bob,

You know, you might be right. Maybe it is something to do with the amp thing. I got a lot of shit for this, but when we were giging, we never used amps. Just ran direct to the board via 100' snake. Everything went to di's first. It sure cut down on lifting all that heavy shit and the sound was great. Just used one big power amp for the mains, and in ear monitors which required NO amps. Our drummer used a yamaha digital drum kit so we just used the l r out out it and that was all. We had a full band, 2 guitars, bass, drums, keys, and 3 vocals. It does take some getting use to, but after a couple of gigs not having to haul all that heavy stuff, it didn't take much getting use to.:)

Windowman,

I feel the geezer status is a state of mind. I still feel and act like a kid. My wife tells me that all the time. I really act like a kid when I get some new gear for the studio. So I guess the answerr is, your as old as you want to feel.:)

YOUR NEVER TOO OLD TO ROCK AND ROLL.

Boardman

Windowman, I think maybe you're a geezer at 50. But you can still think young. My 21 year old daughter will call me up on a Fri and say "daddy, me and so and so are going to see the Molly Ringwalds tonight, do you want to come hang with us?" So you don't have to be uncool just 'cause you're old. But once you're 50, you can get senior citizen discounts in some places so I think that qualifies for geezer status.
The first time my daughter took me to see the Molly Ringwalds,a fairly big regional band here, I was pretty impressed. All young people of course but playing pretty good. We were backstage and at the end of the night, my daughter was introducing me to the band. When I met this one guy, I told him how much I enjoyed the band. He said,"Yeah the roadie told me the old guy liked the band." Grrrr...give me your guitar son, I'll show you how old I am. Kinda have mixed emotions about that. :D :( :D :( :D :( :D :(

"But once you're 50, you can get senior citizen discounts in some places"

Oh geez....

Well, at least I've still got most of my hair and most of my teeth and I'm not a viagra junky yet either so I guess I'm not doing too bad. I like driving a pick-up truck though. I don't make as many old man sounds getting in and out of that one.

alright, take your "senior sorrow" elsewhere.. my dad is 75 and he still skiis (cross country) with my mom most days, and works like a mofo on whatever he feels like doing, despite having broken his back some years ago and being on disability pension. Heck, at your age, he hadn't even had ME yet. I'm 23. Talk about a tough guy eh? So don't be such wusses.
