How does this look???????
I'm into making mainly Rap/R&B beats and quality vocals...... Tell me if this is what I need. Here is what I have already.

Gateway 500s
2.4 P4
512 SDRAM
Shure SM-58
Pop Filter
ACID PRO
SOUND FORGE 6.0
FRUITY LOOPS

I want to add 3 things..... Audiophile 24/96 soundcard
Behringer ub1202 mixer
and an MPC 2000

Can ya'll think of anything else after I add these next 3 things that will make my sound and beats better......?????????????????

If money is no object, like you say, then screw the behringer mixer and get a better one.

Dont get me wrong, I use a Behri myself, and it does the job... but there are better.

What do you suggest? All that will be going into it is a Rode NT1, a SM58 and a Triton or a Motif

IMO behringer mic pre's suck (they hum, sound bad, blah blah). I use a DMP3 because I dont trust my behringer with the vocals... me and my mixer have a love hate relationship like that.

what I am going to do is take my CD player (its nice, very high end, sounds silky smooth) and listen to it directly plugged into my monitors. Then I am going to run it through my behringer. Ill tell you if I hear a serious loss of quality.
thing is, my Monitors are in the mail, I wont have them till next week, so we have to wait.

Anyway, I am not one to suggest which one to buy though. Someone with more experience with the current market of mixers can do that for you.

Rode NT1 is a litte dated I think. You said you had $5000 in one post I think... if so, then you can afford better.

I have an rode NT1000. $300 and worlds better than an NT1 from what I hear.

And people on these boards swear by their rode NTK, the tube version of the NT1000.

If I were you I would get a nice mic, a nice preamp(vtb1, DMP3), decent mixer(Mackie or better), nice keyboard(triton, motif), decent effects processor (lexicon mx110), good compressor(rnc)

So if I had 5K to spend (and mind you, I am a newbie myself) this is where it would go:
$500 for the mic and preamp
$400 for the efx and compressor
$1000 for a mixer
$2000 for the keys
$500 for a good pair of monitor seakers
$200 - 400 for a sound card
$300 for software (pro tools, cakewalk, blah blah)
And 1000 for wires, stands, room treatment, lava lamps... whatever.

Actually I went over... 6500 and you can have an awesome home studio (still need more mic's though).

Anyway, this post should be on the newbie forum or the rack.
