I wasnt sure just what forum to out this in but curiousity is killing me.. Just how would you respond to this thread? here

by laughing at the karaoke singers.....

but then again, I'm mean :D

I don't know, are you asking what compressor would we recommend if any? Or comparing M-Audio monitors to live PA speakers like they are talking about in that thread?
The compressor would work well on the vocals, although not every karoke track would require the same settings for the vocals. For feedback, it's not going to really do anything. To effectively protect against it, you'd have to use it as a limiter and squash it so that it doesn't cause any problems...but that would ruin the vocals going through it too. As far as using it to protect against distoring the speakers (clipping) or glitches (ie. unplugging cables)...you could put the compressor/limiter with a high threshold but it'd have to be able to react fast enough so as not to distort. But then again, as long as you don't overdrive your amplifier, your speaker will be fine.

The compressor isnt the real issue.. They turned a simple question into putting a full blown few hundred watt pa system into a closet. If you were to put a system into a room that size how would you do it? And I beg to differ with you limiting does not distort audio unless you have extremres in the settings.

try unplugging a high gain signal, 1/4" cable...you know the type where you get a loud, quick pop (common with guitarists)....unless you have a really fast attack (a few micro seconds), you may not grab it in time with the compressor/limiter.

anyway, monitors versus PA speakers....eh, for Karaoke I say whatever works. He may find he doesn't have enough power with the monitors at times, but if he's just using at home, not a huge deal I guess. But it sounds like Karokers are serious about their hobby/"profession"...and they take their gear with as much seriousness as we do ours. There may be reasons why they prefer JBLs and Mackie's for Karaokin'

lol did u notice keith was only a super plus poster? while jian and the others were super duper posters and extreme posters? lmao hahahaha take a look at that
