Before every other kick in a track of mine, I have a "ghost kick" where it hits at -9DB, instead of -1DB like the main ones...I'm sending it off to get mixed next week, and am wondering if I should put the "ghost" kicks on another track, cause wont any compresion used on it bring it up to the volume of the main one?Or am i not understanding compression, and putting them on another track is a waste of space

Are those hits supposed to be there? If they are, it will work out fine. That's called dynamics. If they aren't supposed to be there, you need to work on your technique.

yes they are supposed to be there...a song that uses this technique is
Alicia Keys-If I aint got you

If they are supposed to be there, the compression will work as it should. Loud hits will sound loud and soft hits will be sound soft. It will be fine.
