i'm able to record into cubase through my digital board's converters to MOTU 2408 to computer, but i can't get them to play back other than on the headphone outs on the motu.. it plays a stereo version of what is on the computer as i only recorded one track of guitar and applied effects and it was stereo in the headphones so i assume it is just summing it up.. i can't get the individual mono signal on the board...

so in summary... i've used cubase about 3 days, and can record to it but can't get audio out to the board it's getting to the motu but not all the way.. and i'm pretty sure i have the tdif set up the right way.. ok peace out

don't think that you're being ignored...it may be that what you have written is a bit perplexing...you say you can "record to it but can't get audio out to the board"---out to what board?...
your motu has a set-up wizard--use it to be sure all of your connections are right...I use a motu 828 which is connected to my pc via a midi-flyer...my drum machine is connected straight to the motu, and my guitar signals come from the stereo OUT of my mixer straight to the motu...seeing as how you just started using your system, your problem can probably be solved easily...post here again and explain in detail how you have things set up...you say that you can hear your guitar in stereo thru the headphones--how do you know it is stereo?--can you "position" this signal in the left and right fields simultaneously?...if you have the guitar on a mono track in CuBase, CuBase will send it out as a mono track and you can place it wherever you want in the stereo field...if it is placed in the "center", you will hear it equally from each headphone speaker which may give it the appearance of being in stereo....reply with some more detailed info and I'm sure someone will have your answer...later.

this may be too easy, but in cubase, make sure that you have audio enabled. go to Options>Audio Setup the last option in that dropdown will either say "enable audio" or "disable audio". If the option says "enable audio" select it. This will allow audio to your soundcards output.

still working on it....

well.. the sound is definitely being told to go out to the MOTU then the breakout box.. it just doesn't get to the board via TDIF i'm am sure that the TDIF is set up properly as i can get sound into cubase... i am pretty sure it's at cubase that there's a problem if you can think of any reason the audio only comes out to a stereo pair on the motu let me know.. i don't know cubase and unfortunately don't have the opportunity to stay up all night one night to really screw with it..

bottom line.. tunes check in but don't check out.. well at least not mono...
