Hi all,

Anyone know of a good guide for mixing nice sounding vocals in Adobe Audition (or Cooledit).

Kind regards :)

what i usually do as a good base is add dynamic -then near the bottom of the presets use the vocal (i'm not on my computer so i can't tell you the exact one but it's the first vocal processing option.)

then depending on the mic/tone of the singer I'll remove some of the really low end to get rid of the mud and a slight mid boost.

usually get great results...

if needed (i'm a big fan) use a slpash of verb and presto you have a sparkling vocal take.

what kind of mic are you using to record (because that'll change everything.. i use an apex large diaphram condenser mic...not the best but it's served me quite well for a cheaper mic)

Dude....presto?.....wow, 22 years of recording and it was a 'splash' of reverb and a low end cut that was going to give me a 'sparkling vocal take'?....geeeeesh... :p

Seriously, if that works for you, that is really good.
Kindest Regards, :)

13 posts and he's using presets? Yeah, right.

Don't listen to him. lol

hey now

I said to use that as a base.. obviously you'll have tweak it way more and every situation will be different. sorry I haven't posted 800 some posts.. but I just found this forum (and it's been quite helpful) hehe i guess i did make it sound like that's all there is too it.. my bad, only trying to help.

I reacted with a preset attitude. That's the downside of presets. They are so broad-spectrum and often inappropriate. You have to tweak them immediately. 'Why not just go into an EQ right away and start to shape the frequency response?' That's what I thought when I read your post. But you could equally say: "Why not just go into a preset and start to tweak from what you hear there?" So you're right, I guess - if you tweak, it can work.
