Getting Closer?

I'm still a long ways off, but I feel like I'm getting closer to mix nirvana:

- Fish Gotta Swim

Still worried the kick and vocals may be too loud.

But I'm liking the drum sounds we're getting (although we gave up on the kick and triggered a MIDI kick). And I'm liking the reamped guitars.

Your thoughts?

Does it sound like we're all playing together? That was one of the goals, although some of the cats have never met each other, having tracked their parts independently.

Song's great, nicely arranged and played. Great voice!
My only nit would be the drums. They lack a bit of punch, although they're nicely recorded. I'm sure you could fix that with some compression and make them really kick ass!

Yeah, this is well done and it does sort of almost sound live, so the fact that it's done in different places isn't obvious. Perhaps the lead guitar is a bit too mellow sounding for what it's doing and could be a bit grittier/sharper.

i donno if this is like, some kinda unwritten rule.. but i took teh song and tweeked it a touch. just brought teh vox down a but and the lead guitar up little things like that its subtle but i think its a bit more rounded. although i my be way off haha. p.s. sorry if this seems like im stepping on toes. feel free to tell me to F' off.

Naw, man, no toes stepped on at all. Did you make those adjustments purely through EQ?

I like where you're heading with this tweaks, but obviously the best place to make them is in my original mix.

I'm hearing lots of consistent feedback to mess with the snare - compression, boosting the snap. Also, I probably do need to bring my vocals down a bit.
