Get this ... on compression

I'll admit, I actually have an old 3630 in line with my home theatre... I'm adding around 15dB of boost from the variable output to bring it to a decent level, then a little soft limiting for the loud stuff.

Obviously, my home theatre isn't really cool or anything, but it sounds pretty nice.
 
Mix engineers will run a signal through a compressor without actually adding compression to just alter the signal with the box.
 
Well look at all the dandy tube compressors that are on the market. I imagine the circuitry in them makes minute changes even less avoidable??

Turns out this guy is the Director of Resources for the music school ... that means he's the admin guy who delegates responsibility for the computer clusters, studios etc. Still dunno why he's teaching my course then!
 
let me tell you a fact,

i was just playing with some hardware and software compressors and noticed a 'big' difference in sound

where did the change of sound come from?

i put money on it that compression changes sound,
and hell, from the moment you even slightly adjusted some dynamics, then the waveform has changed, and this means the sound has changed..
so even if we don't hear compression (well), there is a change in the sound

period

now, something that is completely transparent and won't ever be noticed when used is distortion.....right? eheh
 
Yeah ... and anyway, it's only digital distortion that's worth using ... !

PS... if you recorded the lecturer, you should send the recording to the university and ask them to stop teaching bullsh*t crap at their university... I'd even report it to the educational borad and etc.

Man that makes me weary of the instructor for the classes i'm taking in January.

I hope he or she isn't a total putz & I can learn something sheesh....
 
notbradsohner - I suspect if he read what I wrote about him here I would be failing my coursework element that he marks!!

Anyway, I just thought it was quite funny to have a little bit of a laugh at. Glad to be of service!
