yes, you can run your delta card as well as a sblive card. Many people do it ,actually. It should present no problems.

I even know of cats who have four sound cards coexisting peacefully in the same computer.

Hi John:

You sound like a dude that could help me get started. I am a real green recorder as far as audio is concerned. I have been burning CD's of my own for a long time (using just my computer programing, burner and it's software.

I would like to be able to record to my computer using my own old tapes, 45, 78 & 33 rpm records, and voice or music using a mike. I just don't know exactly what software and hardware I should buy to get started.

I am running a Dell XPS t700 computer, Windows 98 (2nd), 32Mb. Diamond Viper V770D NVIDIA AGP graphics card, Turtle Beach TBS Montego II sound card, Yamaha 16 x 10 x 40 CD-RW recorder and Adaptec Easy CD Creator V. 4.02 software and a 56X cd-rom drive I have (I think) enough hard drive (40 GB.--2 each 20 GB)

So far John, I have recorded audio from a Pioneer entertainment center that can play am/fm, record player, cd player and cassette tapes and the only way I know how to record is from the Pioneer into my sound card and using Microsoft's "record" software that comes with the operating system. That has only enabled me to record only up to 1 minute of audio.

I guess you have figured out just how green I am at this recording stuff, but sure would like to get some information on just how to start the right way !!

Sure,

Not very good as I've only had this card for a week or so now.

I just posted one ditty to the mixing clinic called 'Dirt' which is at http://www.mp3.com/slacker ... if you listen to this one, feel free to comment in the thread in the clinic. This was done in an evening using an SM57, Art Tube Pre, and the Delta....for the most part anyways.

This was all done on the Delta as well. Obviously not a finished mix...i just posted it for a friend to listen to. I'll leave it up for you for a day or two.

Sounds like you pretty much have it sorted out except for the software side. Microsoft sound recorder really isn't much good for anything, and it does have a 1minute limitation.

2 track recorder with many editing features, something you will want to be able to do.

I'm sorry Frank - I can't offer much help, except to say that you need to get better recording software than what's in Windows. Do a search on this site and you'll find several free or almost-free options.

I am ecstatic to say I too just got a Delta 44. And as you and others have said, even my existing recordings (made using Soundblaster) sound substantially better played back through the Delta. Man! I can't wait to record some fresh tracks. To that end, I've also purchased a Tube MP Studio preamp and I'm gonna borrow a decent condenser mic from a friend. I'll let you guys know how it all works out. I feel like calling in sick to work so I can stay home and play with the new toys!

That's it man. Absolutely laughable! The good news is that I am *forced* to be creative to get acceptable results. For instance, I use the Bass Driver into the Art Pre for electric guitar to get a somewhat realistic tube sound, since the POD sucks at it. In that pistol1_mixdown2 bit which is just a scratch mix, the muted guitar picking and clean guitars are all done that way.

Starting with nothing has also taught me what I really need...and *why* I need it.

Thats exactly how I feel. For all you about to buy the Delta44, I have heard much better things about the card I bought. Guillemot ISIS 8/4. It has 8 ins, 4 outs, and SPIDF. Got it for $185 off eBay. I don't think the company sells to stores, as I have never seen it anywhere, but they are up on eBay pretty regularly. I couldn't be happier with mine, and I'd say the quality is as good if not better then the Delta's.

The only thing I see differentiating the ISIS from the Delta is the 24/96 converters. I don't see how that puts it in a totally different league. There are many Echo cards that aren't 24 bit, and they are regarded in the same league as the Deltas. The ISIS is a really decent card, for a realllyyyyy decent price. And how is my card an "all-in-one"? It has no features I don't see on the Delta.

Guillemot MaxiStudio ISIS - Guillemot has been known for gamer's soundcards and 3D graphics accelerators, but the Maxi Studio ISIS is an 8-in/4-out PCI soundcard with the 24-bit A-to-D and D-to-A converters housed in a breakout box outside of the computer. Includes S/PDIF I/O. The multichannel audio chipset employed is made by Dream and is limited to 16-bit audio internally. The game-compatible audio is handled by an ESS Maestro 2 chipset, which was a very poor performer when tested by Arny Kreuger. From what I've read and heard from users out there, the ISIS is a decent enough card if you're not too worried about ultimate sound quality, but I would recommend going for a Lynx, Digital Audio Labs or RME Audio card if you need good sound quality for only a little money. The two things the ISIS will give you that the others won't is a built in GS-compatible, Dream-chipset wavetable synthesizer and Win98 game compatibility.

I have never heard anywhere else anything about the card's "gaming" capablities. It isn't what the card is marketed for at all. I also know that the audio quality isn't "poor overall". I at one point owned a Echo Layla (before the infamous break in at Jake's house) and this thing compares to that just fine, I am not dissapointed by it at all. If anything my mixes come out better (probably not because of the card though, more experience).
