About a week ago, I posted my first track 'The Drive'. I got a few comments which I really appreciated. So then I decided that I would keep all my music together and so I posted my second track in the same thread, thinking that this was clever and organised.
 I now think this was a mistake as the track recieved no comments and very few views. I think people probably thought 'oh I've heard that one' etc and my post slipped down and out.

So I thought I'd repost the track and hope to get a comment or two. If nobody comments this time, then I'll know that the tune just simply sux. :p
So...I'd love any comments on the mix guys...both good or bad are welcome.
Thanks in advance...

Mart.

Hey Mart, here goes my comments:

The "bassy" beat needs more bass. There's a trcika called the NY compression that can help to enhance that beat. Another way to make it rounder is to use a sidechained signal generator that activates when the beat comes and stop when the beat end. I've used that trick to spice up some of my drum kicks and I think it will be useful for you too.

Mix is pretty equilibrate, as I say, I would just emphatize the bass (is a kick, right? Not to sure in this kind of music).

Thanks very much for your comment Pixel.
Yea...I know what sidechain compression is and am familiar with the NY method.
I did actually use S/C on this track when I first composed it a couple of years ago but I just didn't like the sound. S/C compression(of the pumping type), always sounds to me like an 80's cassette tape that's gone abit wonky.

But to be fair...that was before I found Reaper and vst's..I only had one compressor to choose from back then(the one built into Reason) and so I decided to take your advice and apply it again now in Reaper.

So I've uploaded a new version of the mix which uses around 6-7db of S/C compression. What do you think...should I use more or maybe even less? or a sharper attack maybe or a faster release?

Any help anyone can offer me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks alot...

Mart.

Very well recorded, Mart!
Not really my genre but the synth work is very good. I'm imagining a large dance floor here. Everything sounds nicely balanced and clear. Is it gonna remain instrumental?
Good work!

Joe :):):):)

Thanks Joey.

Yea, it's gonna remain instrumental as are all my tunes as I couldn't sing a note to save my life. :o :(

Any thoughts on the sidechain compression used....anyone?

Mart.

Dude...

listened to both mixes and I think ya grabbed it a lot better on this mix.

Nicely done man. Good mix.

I know nothing about this kind of music, but it sounds okay to me.

It reminds me of dance clubs in the early 90's. I was a young punk and I'd go incognito into the dance clubs to pick up on wasted goth chicks. Good times. :D

Thanks Greg. Yea, you're right about the early 90's feel, I was mainly inluenced during that era...I was in my 20's which says it all. ;)
