Newbie here:

I've been researching for how to set up my studio, was looking into an audio interface, and a seperate analogue mixer,
but then I came across the 428, and I'm thinking of getting this instead of having to get both an interface and a mixer,
this seems to do both, and I'm getting DAW as well.

IS this too good to be true for 500 bucks?

Am i missing something?

what's the difference between this interface, and say something like a delta 44/66 thingy.

what am I losing/gaining?

is this a good product?

sorry for all the questions, but I wanna make the right choice!
so much stuff.

thanks.

good choice as long as you never want to simultaneously record more than one stereo source.

the only drawback is that the us-428 does not have phantom power, so if you want to hook a decent mic to it, you've got to get an external phantom power source.

you can get phantom power for like $25 or so.

There's no reason why you cant record 4 tracks at once with your 428.....Just unplug all other USB devices.

I have a 428 but it is used only as a controller for Adobe Audition. I have a Terratec soundcard for the audio. I like the 428...it fits on my small workstation table in front of the monitor and just above the keyboard shelf, and works as advertised. BTW, I got it for $400 at American Musical Supply, new.

it does work quite well, at least for me. I use adobe audition and for now just using it as a controller and its wonderful-- however i am getting equipment for my laptop so it will work on there as well. I got mine for $220 used, look around at your favorite stores and ask them for used consoles. I personally don't feel its worth $400 but thats because i got it so cheap ;)

Maybe yall can help me out I use the 428 with Cool Edit Pro 2.0 and when I record a main vocal and then try to record another vocal "double" the playback is sluggish so it causes them not to be in time with each other

It seems like the 428 is being discontinued. I don't see it in music mags anymore and a guy at GC says "we've stopped carrying it." Hmmmmmm....

That's not true I see it in a lot of magazines that I go through and also see it in the music stores that we have in my area because I just got mine about 2 or 3 weeks ago and I love mixing with it. It definately beats mixing with a keyboard and mouse
