I'm a HUGE George Harrison fan.
George's songs and playing have been a trememndous influence on me.
As many of you may know, I cover lots of Beatles songs, with George Harrison songs being some of my favorites. As a cover artist, covering Beatles songs, I've always considered myself as more of a "John or George"- figure. [Ok, throw your stones now].
Throughout my life, I've identified with George Harrison, quite a bit, his music has brought great joy to my life, and I've always found him a GREAT inspiration. His songs are very meaningful and deep. He was the deep Beatle, more the strong/silent/thoughtful type, with a unique and classic style, and a wry sense of humor.
Being in a band that's so legendary and great as the Beatles, it's hard to put George in perspective. He was always in the shadow of Lennon/McCartney, but he is a great artist in his own right. His influence on music is underrated, and overlooked a lot, but he was a great presence in the music scene.
Having George Harrison die, to me, is like hearing Dylan died, or something, and it is very, very sad, but it's nowhere on the scale of tragedy or shock that John's murder was, which really threw everyone for a loop.
I'm mourning George's death, with the rest of you, and with everyone else I know. He was a great presence in the music world, and he leaves a great musical legacy, which we'll go on enjoying, as it goes echoing into eternity.
George Harrison will be missed, but his influence will always be with us, he touched practically everyone who's tuned into music, and the world has suffered the loss of another great person, musician and artist.
Close the book on George's life, it's over, but the world is a better place for having George Harrison around. We'll all remember him fondly, and it's up to us to keep his legacy alive.
