Unpossible!
How well do these work as drum OH's?
Thanks.
Thanks.

BTW, a pair just sold on eBay yesterday. It sure was tempting, but the price went from "real deal" to "reasonable" by the time the auction ended.
sdelsolray said:Did you pick them up?
mikey@thecave said:I read a review ...the guy thought the SP T#3 sounded alot like the Geffel 92,,,,,,just a few dollars different in priceRecording mag. Jan 2004
NL5 said:I'm pretty excited, but it was a MAJOR purchase for my little home studio. I was looking for a single M92.1S, and ended up with two UM92.1S's.
I think it was a moment of temporary insanity!![]()
sdelsolray said:And just because they're rebadged SP T3's from China shouldn't get you too upset.
sdelsolray said:Seriously, you now have two of the finest microphones on the planet. If you ever want to sell them, send me an e-mail.
mikey@thecave said:what mic does the M7 capsule mic sound like?
nwsoundman said:Some other mics that use that capsule are the Neuman U48 and M49. The Gefell UMT70's, MT71's, UM92.1's and the UM75. All these will sound a different due to mic body, grill, and amplifier designs. The capsule however will allow for a top end that IMO is unobtainable with any other capsule.
nwsoundman said:You will be very happy indeed. Now you will never be able to tolerate most budget mics again. I am a huge Gefell fan. The M7 capsule in the best sounding capsule IMO. I feel so strongly about that, I own like 13 Gefell mics.
Record something and post it.
Oh ya, they work very well on drums. Nice air with no sizzle. Just open and real.

There really isn't a mic that sounds like a M7 capsule. The M7 was used in early U47's. Later 47's use a K47 capsule. The M7 has a great top end due to being made with PVC instead of other materials such as Mylar. PVC starts as a liquid and is spread onto a glass sheet. Other capsule materials tend to start out as a solid that is rolled or pressed to become the desired thickness. This rolling pressing creates a grain so to speak in the material. The PVC being a liquid that is poured and spread on glass doesn't get that grain to it. The diaphram with a grain and a diaphram of PVC will flex differently. This is where the killer top aend air and space gets it's start.
Lots of mics use the M7 capsule. Although most are Gefells. You can read up on the history of Gefell and the M7 capsule at Gefells site.

If I remember any of this wrong let me know.
