Did you mix for the love of mixing or for the recognition of people ?

There are many mixes that suck ass who have thousands of listens and people commenting ... what does it mean ? nothing significant

I wasn't asking for attention... I was saying that I was guessing that people listening were being nice... and that I hope people would feel free to criticize even if it isn't just to compliment it. My point is... I'm interested in what people say that I can learn from.

I don't think I worded my original post too well, so sorry about that...

No! I mixed for the Universal Audio UAD-2 (OCTO Core) :-)
Ive got the Neumann KH 310 A since few days - the Focasl are for you ;-)

That works for me....I have no need for the UAD stuff, I mostly mix OTB. :)

I spend dozens and dozens hours to work on this.
I mixed until 6 am, to post it at 11h55 PM NYC time.

And I just read on a forum, that the deadline was on central europe time o_o.
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUU. It was in the rule on Fab's website. I didn't knew.

Kill me ._.

Don't worry, I also submitted my final mix after 11:59pm CET, but pureMix in person told me it was ok as long as it still was on June 1st, no matter the time zone you belong to.

You can come back to life man ;)

Hello fellow mixers, new here.
I'm not sure if we were suppose to post our mixes on here as well? But now i'm getting that feeling from rereading step 3 @ GearFest Mixing Contest Download page.. (sorry can't post links yet)
Anyways I posted my mix on SC on may 31st PST.. Here it is for anyone that would like to have a listen to it..feel free to leave feedback. Thanks!

Cheers,
Rob

I summited in the evening of june 1st as well but my mix is downloaded from USA. I have managed to upload and tag safely but couldn't add to the group because the add group button didnt function. I hope the tag was enough and it was downloaded by the team.

I mixed for the Focals. I'd keep the Focals, the UAD, or the Lauten LDC, but everything else is for you guys. Watch. If I win anything it will be a copy of Presonus Studio One Pro, which I already own (runs begging her Sweetwater Sales Rep -- can I please exchange this prize for something I can use). Like I stand a chance of winning anything..... 1 in 2800. Are the planets aligned?

Focals.. flat up to 40 kHz, and I can't hear over 14 kHz.... lol. 16 kHz on a good day. I can hear my tinnitus everyday. You know, I'm amazed I can even mix sometimes. I should have my dog in the room while mixing and ask opinions. What do you think? I'm just being cranky today. I need to get food. Tinnitus is bad today.

My track was downloaded in Japan and USA. I rocked Kenya, Mexico, Indonesia, and India one time. Mostly America, France, Germany, Australia, and Russia.

I posted it on 2 june, 6am CET (in France, where I live), and it was 1st June, 12:55PM on NYC.

I'm such an idiot. :(
Yea, I like to live dangerously.

I hope that it will still be ok. Anyway, it was a good experience, but it's desapointing to (normally) not be in the contest after so much work.

(sorry, I'll spam the forums a bit and then I'll update my link ._.)

And it have only been downloaded two times from europe:
By me and a friend of me.

The Fab's chinesse guy haven't downloaded mine yet :(.

The best prize, was the given chance to participate, to compare to other mixes, and to improve ourselves! :)
But, yeah, I also, done it for the Focals. :D

I hope that my comment on the recording is finally visible. It's bern21's mix and comments for the GearFest mixing contest.

What do you think will be the approach of the Judges for selecting the winner of the competition, creativity in the mix or respect for the original sound and overall balance?

With 2800 mixes, I would think some originality/creativity might be a welcome relief... but I imagine it would be the right combination of both.

Hey there, fhumble!! lol! I have a quick question. I was rushing to write my entry's 'description' detailing what I did, etc, so there are some missing (and extra) words here and there, along with some typos and grammatical hiccups. If I wanted to fix this, would this be legal, or could it potentially render me ineligible?

Thanks.

I tried to go the "originality/creativity" route just simply because there were so many other good mixes that were a more standard (and probably best) approach to the song. Just thought I'd have fun with it a bit:p

which focals do you have? used to mix with twins, they are really good monitors. if you don't mind, would take those vovox cables d_tex_prod_03

Focals? Me? Have now? :laughings: I just have a pair of cheap Samson Resolv 65as and a KRK 10S subwoofer. That's why I WANT the Focals. If I don't win anything, I'm going to buy a pair of Equator D5s. I've heard some very nice things about them.

BTW my tinnitus rings at 430 Hz so it's a bit flat, with a high pitched component around 13.7 kHz I figure. Nice, huh?

And just in case you're interested in the real reason why I chose to mix like I did with that much reverb, I did some advance scouting before I started....

But where is the 4x10 Ampeg bass amp? That looks like my practice amp. Where is the Marshall stack? What's with those small boxes on the floor?

Hey Clarity - I don't really know. I suppose it depends if editing your description in Soundcloud affects the timestamp on your uploaded file. I really have no idea - sorry!
