I need something to stick between my vocal mic(s) and mixer when recording.
I don't really know much about pre-amps or rack gear, all I know is I have to be able to add compression and eq the vocals some other way than in software after the track has been recorded.

It'd also be great if I could roll off certain fequencies with it. Can anyone recommend a piece of gear that can do this? Nothing really expensive.

Thanks a lot

what you are looking for is called a channel strip. most of them have some combination of a mic preamp, compressor, and eq. some of them have gates, limiters, and A/D converters too. also they may have a DI for plugging in an instrument as well as phantom power, polarity reverse, low cut filters, pads, and metering.

in the inexpensive realm, the focusrite platinum or dbx silver lines may fit your needs. there are others i can't think of off the top of my head. i can't personally recommend any particular one, because i've never used any of them.

Thanks, but those two you recommended are way out of my price range right now.
I was looking around, would something on this page do what I would need it to? An eq would be nice but I could always buy one separately.

Or this, but I've heard it's a nightmare to use.

About mics, I will be using an sm57 and/or an sm58.
Thanks for any help, I really don't know shit about this kind of thing. I'm just a guitarist.
