Well, they've been winding down the line before and after the Chinese MC-012 episode, but their current prices look almost like a bait-and-switch. MK319 $70 (no brainer). ML2500 tube mic $99 (haven't heard that one, but at that price, I might). MC-012 $70 (don't know if Chinese or Russian) That's probably a good deal either way. I think of all Oktavas, Russian or Chinese, as "no customer support" mics. The better ones are durable and sound good, but for any repairs or mods, I'll probably wind up paying Taylor Johnson. Just thought some of you cheap (wise) mo-fo's might want to jump on it.-Richie

Yeah, I got that e-mail, too.

Are these the Russian or Chinese versions?

MF does this all the time when a product gets "upgraded". I got a really, really good deal on my Layla24 right before the Layla 3g came out. Since Oktava probably isn't coming out with updated versions of these mics...

They're the Chinese version, per the Russian Octava site (has pic's).

Anyone know if they sound the same/as good?

Presuming that the A.S.M. signifies the Chinese version...I've used mine on acoustic guitars and didn't like it. Very thin sounding (almost banjo-like), but I understand that this is not normally characteristic of these mics. I liked it on vocals and I've heard that they rule as overheads.

Some russian oktavas are ASM as well. ASM was a distrubutor for a while before the chinese thing came up.

GC has been known to use pictures of the Russian mics to advertise the Chinese mics. Many people at GC don't even know there is a difference. I've never seen a Chinese MK319- did they make some?-Richie

I've only heard of the Chinese controversy in relation to the MC-012's but who knows for sure?

ouch
got a ml2500 off e-bay for 160.00 like 7days ago.

Can someone send me this e-mail? I defiently didn't get it and GC told me they don't care Oktava's anymore. My e-mail address is thehymnsohio (at) yahoo.com or you could just posted on here.

so the 319 is decent? I would check it out for that price anyway.

and any updates on the 2500? I don't need more, but if It's decent I'd like to play with one.

how big of an upgrade do you think a mc012 would be as an overhead compared to the LDC mxl 990/991 pair? i think the mxls are way too harsh but it could have just been the room i was using them in.

i know my GC only had the 012 and the 319 a few weeks ago, no tube mic. who knows if any are left nowadays :(

The one close to me in the southbay area of Los Angeles is out of all but the 219.

I wouldn't bother with that 219, not a good model by all accounts. Love my 319 and 012s. Would really like to hear more about the 2500 (Giraffe?).
