Sorry to interrupt, guys......

....but I do have a couple thoughts.

Based on my limited garageband experience, I think you're better off choosing the smaller or more narrow category in which it might fit. When I put something in pop/rock, it takes forever to get reviewed, and people don't seem to focus on the songs as well -- when I put something in blues, it got more reviews and more educated reviews much faster (of course it's possible that my pop/rock submission just sucks and my blues song doesn't). Using this analysis, based upon what you've said, you're probably better off in punk than alternative (which is a much vaguer term and which everyone thinks they are).

You can't say with any authority that an artist as large as Elvis Costello sucks. His voice might not be your cup of tea or whatever, but you're talking about a guy whose been a hugely influential songwriter and musician for more than 20 continuous years.

What's so funny about peace love and understanding? (written, btw, by Nick Lowe, not Elvis)

Hey Rat's.
Don't worry about classifying it, the more you think about it, the less you feel it.
I call the Pixies the Pixies. Those who listen will understand. Frank Black followed his whims, much like we all should.

btw Propaghandi is punk band but not in that "dude where's my car" way. They've got 3 albums on Fat Wreckchords, and are on a few of those cheap fat compilations.

dude where's my car???? What is the connection to punk?

propagandhi is one fo the last active old-school punk bands. and punk is dying anyway... not too piss off people but blink 182 punk? come on! punk is fashion now and thereby destroyed itself...

sort of...
