I just got some G2 heads for a recording session our band did this past weekend, and they are great. All the store had was the coated G2s, so that was what I got. But I was wondering what the sound diff is between the coated and uncoated heads, which are easier to tune, and which do you guys use/prefer. I play a little bit of everything from edgy hard rock to mellowed acoustic rock, so which one is a good medium. I've only had them for 2 days, so if the uncoated heads sound better I could probably take them back :D

Thanx

I think that generally clear heads are a bit more "bright" then their coated counterparts. Check out this web page:
http://www.drumweb.com/profsound.shtml

that link will take you to "Professor Sounds Drum Tuning Bible" - an absolute must for every drummer - there is a good section on heads describing the sound differences between different types (eg. coated/uncoated) as well as a great method for drum tuning

enjoy

I found the coated heads to be too muffled for my tastes. The clear brought out a nice clear, deep tone, without being "thuddy"...

Thanx Pratt...

That's an AWSOME site. If you know of any more good sites like that let me know. :)

Thanx everyone for your posts. I was thinking the same thing about the clear heads, but like I said the store didn't have the clears, (and I really needed the new heads BAD!!). So I'll probably end up taking them back and trading them in before our next recording session.

Thanx again

Another good drum site (it's a forum) is

www.drum-talk.com

I don't know why they don't promote it here more. That's where I spend most of my online time.

Great Site Gear Junky...

I just checked it out, it's pretty cool. I'll definatly have to spend some time there. :-)

I guess I'm sticking with the coated...

I've had my drumset at my friends house for the past couple of weeks so I haven't had a chance to take them back, so I guess I'll just stick with them for now. And my question is, what resonent heads should I get to go with the G2 Coated heads?

Thanx for the quick reply, I am looking for a little more on the resonant side so I'll probably check out the Generas.

And I've got no problem mixing brands, (my drumset is a Tama Rockstar 10", 12", 14", and I'm using my 16" floor tom from my old Sunlite set, and when I was still using my Sunlite I had two Percussion Plus toms mixed in there too) so I may also check out the ambassadors.
